by frederikranke

Hey,

Has anyone stayed here? If so how was it. Is it on a good beach?

Cheers

Hi

We didn't stay there because it was out of our league financially, but we did go there for a meal and all I can say is WOW.

This hotel is unbelievable. If you haven't already, go to the website (you can easily find it in Google). The staff were amazing, and the hotel and restaurant was out of this world.

by sezabell

we are getting married on samui next august and would love to hear of some nice places's to stay on our honey moon night,we are staying in maenam at the shady resort but have about 40 more people with us so want to duck away for a night at least and also ideas of where me and my brides maides can go they want all the luxury with spa in the room, love to hear about any that you have been to.

Hey there are some great water falls romantic I think in the middle of the island there is one that is sacred to the Thai and another much larger that is more often visited by the tourist. You can elephant trek to them too but I hiked. I found Big Buddha beach stunning with its shrines and of course big Buddha. The Anthong National Park can be reached from Ko Samui for a three hour boat trip out to several beautiful islands and caves. Bring good shoes for the caving and watch out with drinking too much the night before if the seas are choppy. I found riding into the sunset on a beat up old boat very romantic myself (though my girlfriend at the time was hugging the rail)I could imagine it being fun to have a bunch of old friends climbing the rope ladders into the cave areas like a bunch of kids. best of luck

We just had our honeymoon in samui in july, the perfect setting.

For a very special night I would recommend Napasai http://www.pansea.com/eng/napasai_infor.html

We went there for an evening meal and were blown away by the place, we only wished we could afford to spend some nights there. If money is no issue, take a look. Wherever you stay, it will be perfect. Congratulations, I hope you enjoy your wedding, honeymoon and married life as much as we have.

Where to stay

by stoliboli

Has anyone any recommendations for hotels. We will be travelling to KS early September but havent booked a hotel yet. Probably looking for a 4 or 5 star hotel, but any recommendtions would be good.

Re: Where to stay

Hi

Lots of accommodation options on Samui. What floats your boat??do you like it quiet,do you like to be near the action??Quiet would be somewhere like Choengmon, Sala Samui is good but expensive,Bophut has Anantara,Bophut Resort & Spa to name a couple.Maenam has Sanitburi resort & Napasai Samui resort.

If you like it a bit more lively then probably Chaweng is the place.Have a look at Centara Grand(formally Central Samui Beach Resort) Poppies,Buri Rasa, Amari Palm Reef,Chaweng Regent just to name a few.Lamai is also a place worth a look.

Have a look at the sawadee.com web site it pretty much has the best online previews of resorts for Samui

Hope this helps & anything else please ask

Anantara was great and the price was right when we stayed last week. They even upgraded us to the Royal Suite for 3 nights in exchange for staying 1 night at the Bandara Resort next door, due to the Anantara's over booking. The Bandara Resort is not at all comparable to the Anantara. (except that the restaurants were both delicious and much more economical than the Anantara's) If you want to arrive at the Anantara in comfort, I recommend the Mercedes pick-up service. It is only US$25 one way.

We also stayed at the Four Seasons which was fantastic but two nights there cost more than four nights at the Anantara. It was WONDERFUL nonetheless and I completely recommend it to you if you don't mind paying the price.

Travel Tips for Ko Samui

No Overstuffed Suitcases.

by Princess_Emily

No overstuffed suitcases, stop packing stuff your not gonna wear, and if your bags are overweight at the check in counter, you'll wind up paying for the extra kilos.
If your planning on doing some island hopping, travel lite, would recommend a backpack for easy on, easy off, when boarding boats. T-Shirts, Shorts, Sandals, maybe a hat, definitely sunglasses, and sunblock, leave your watch at home, your on vacation. Toilet paper, sanitary wipes, and a small bottle of Germ X waterless soap are nice to have around.
Medical supplies, all the prescription drugs your doctor has you on, and or, a bottle of pain killer for the day after a hard nights partying. Don't forget the waterproof / airtight camera cases for underwater photography.
Power adapters, Chargers, Plug adapters and a extra SD Card for those who really enjoy taking lots of photo's. Plenty of snorkel / dive gear to rent, but for the discerning diver, bringing some of your own equipment is cool. The weather turns bad, you have no choice but to stay indoors, a Nintendo DS or other game console can keep your children, or the child in you, entertained.

If you're lost in Chaweng,Koh...

by Jimmytravel

If you're lost in Chaweng, Koh Samui and stumble in to Christy's Cabaret Bar, be sure aware of the 'ladies' checking you up. The people working here are transvetites and have a show twice a night. The show is hilariously funny, and is absolutely worth a visit. Some men have been fooled...

Bus/Ferry to Krabi

by Willettsworld

It's possible to get a bus/ferry combo ticket to Krabi from Ko Samui. I booked mine through a travel agents in central Chaweng which cost 500 baht. I got picked up early in the morning from my hotel and we picked more people up and headed towards the ferry pier in Nathon. We then transferred onto an oldish looking bus that then took us south to another pier outside Nathon where we got on to the ferry bound for Dousak. The ferries look pretty ancient and simple with no amenities apart from a small snack shop. We left Ko Samui at just after 8am and arrived in Dousak at 9.40am where we got onto another newer bus that took us to a travel agent office in Surat Thani about 68km away. Here we had breakfast even though it was gone 11am and we then got taken to the main bus station and shown to another bus bound for Krabi. We had to wait some 40 minutes for this bus to leave which it finally did at 12.30pm and we arrived in Krabi at 3.40pm.

Excellent Seafood

by globetrotter06 about Happy Elephant

This must be one of the most popular restaurants in Bhoput. Outside before entering you can have a look at how they prepare the king prawns and the fish. The food is really delicous. I'd love to try out this one again.
