Weather?

by pecaspat

Could anybody inform me about the current weather in Koh Samui? I'll be there next July 27th and seems that will be raining this days : (

I will really appreciate any comment!

Thanks

Re: Weather?

by doodybee

try looking at weather.com for a 10 day forecast and also for previous years data

the weather all over doesn't seem to be following its usual pattern anyway so you may have to take pot luck

its not " a rainy season " time out there is it?

Re: Weather?

by johnboywalton71

It's the rainy season. While it won't rain every day, I would bank on it being overcast for part of most days.

Re: Weather?

by bkarjee

It is surely a rainy season in Koh Samui in Jul-Aug, but as pointed out earlier, it doesnt keep raining for the whole day. It will rain for few minutes or maybe 1-2 hrs and rest of the time, it is simply overcast sky. There is no problem in organizing a trip in Jul-Aug time period

Re: Weather?

Just returned from a week (01/07 - 8/07) at Ko Samui, we had 3 thunder storms in the week, seems to rain for 20-30 minutes, which cools down things.

Travel Tips for Ko Samui

Basic communication

by jamiesamui

As with any foreign country it is an advantage to learn some basic communication terms. In thai it is handy to know the following terms.

Sa-wa-dee khap for males,Sa-wa-dee ka for females(hello or goodbye).

Kap kun khap for males, kap kun ka for females(thank you).

Other handy one`s are

Cow jye my(do you understand)

Cow jye(yes i do)

My cow jye(no I don`t)

Choo-ay dai mai (Can you help me )

Gee(as in guest) baht (how many baht is this)

Mai ao ( as in cow) khap or ka I don`t want. politely

My Pen Rai khap or ka ( your welcome )

Dee Maak ( very good )

A good one for all you single men to learn (but never say)is Pom raak kun (I love you)

This not the correct spelling, just the easiest way I found for english pronounciation.
If you have even the most basic knowledge of the thai language you will be surprised how it will help you.I used a book called Thai for beginners by Benjawan Poomsan Becker. It`sgot everything you need.I also used some web sites that have thai people pronouncing the words and phrases.Go to a search engine e,g Google and enter learn to speak thai and Bob`s your aunty.

The Full Moon Party

by balisunshine about On the beach at Koh Phan-Nga

If partying is on your agenda,
then the infamous Full Moon Party
at the island next door,
Koh Phang-Nga
is not to be missed.

You need not stay at Koh Phang-Nga
to be able to attend.

There are several boats that leave
from Bophut's pier
with a choice of departures and returns.

Just keep in mind that the Full Moon Parties
don't always happen on the Full Moon night,
but rather on the weekend closest
to the actual date.

Make sure that you
only carry the cash you need
and leave all valuables back at the hotel.

Party safe and have lots of fun!

Tuk tuk an easier way to move around

by hash09

Tuk Tuk is an easy to move around from place to another. and another alternative you can rent a scooter which is slighly cheaper than tuk tuk because, if u taking tuk tuk to move around, it gonna cost you if u want to go to one place and another, but if u renting a scooter, u can use it as your own bike, so u can go at any places you want at anytime.

I did not ride a scooter as i have many bad experience about it... once i got accident and hit a back of the cow, that was the last time i ever ride a motor bike.

Samui Aquarium & Tiger Zoo

by Pomska

Take a picture of you with a Bengal tiger. You can either take the picture by yourself or ask the staff to take a picture. It will cost more if the staff takes a picture.

There's no admission fee to just look at the tiger.
