Surat Palm Resort
by MickiSweden
The second place I just love is the restaurant of Surat Palm Resort. I guess your wondering why I dont put my two tips on the restaurants, but its not their food or drink i love. Its not the service or the people working there, Its the view. I almost go here every day when Im in Lamai and eat my breakfast, have a coffe, some lunch or a banana milkshake. It so wonderful to just sit and look at the whole bay of Lamai and the few people coming to the end of the Lamai beach. You just must not miss this place. Come here alone and just sit for a hour and enjoy beeing alive. This is what lifes about.
Around Koh Samui
by meaganelizabeth
When on Koh Samui, many travelers like to rent the motorbikes for $1-$5 a day. A small jeep can also be rented for about $20. I have see several tourists fall from their bikes. It can be a very dangerous move, for you and other people on the road. The Thai have their own way of moving to and fro. It is called GO CRAZY!. They pass EVERYONE, they drive so fast, and they drive on the shoulder alot. If you don't know where you are going or really how to drive in this type of situation, please, take a cab or a motorcabbike guy. The guys with orange vests will let you hop on. And the pickup trucks are taxis, they will take you anywhere. It is pretty cheap. Or ride an elephant!
Best restaurant in Samui
by davidsummers about Beach Love
This is my personal opinion but Beach Love was by far the best restaurant in Samui.
It is a hut on the beach with tables and chairs actually on the beach and deck chairs right by the water.
By night this place becomes what i can only explain as the most chilled place on planet earth.
The lighting is just right with candles on every table and subtle lighting in the actual restaurant itself creating just the right ambience.
The music they play is superb. Chilled to perfection. I think this place puts Cafe Mambo and Cafe Del Mar in Ibiza in the shade but thats my opinion eh?
As for the food. Well, we ate here quite a few times and the local food is not only cheap but sooooo tasty. My wife and i could not spend over 750bht (£10) a night for both of us even when we tried. So much choice.
My favorite dish was the fish cakes which are an appertizer but i ate freshly caught fish every time which they have on display or a specials chalk board at the front of the restaurant.
You do have a choice of western food but i didnt eat any of it and it is more expensive than the Thai food anyway.
If you are in Chaweng Noi or even Chaweng, you must try this place. You will not be dissapointed.
Full Moon Party
by Paulie52
I took a boat over to a neighboring island for the Full Moon Party. Had an excellent time and would strongly recommend it. All the bars along the beach are packed. People have campfires set up all over and it can be as wild as you want to make it.
I heard this was a sort of beach rave with drugs around, but if you are going for that, be very careful. There were quite a few police moving about and I am not sure how friendly the local fuzz is to that sort of thing.
Really, though, it's a great time and you'll meet a lot of cool people.
