I stayed at this hotel for 24 nights in July 2004 in a deluxe room. I found the hotel nice and quiet, a good choice for honeymooners. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were spacious and were cleaned every day to a high standard. The rooms have a double bed and single bed, TV, fridge, mini-bar, radio, air-con, safe for valuables, and balcony.
The hotel also has some bungalows right next to the beach, although some are close to the swimming pool so you lack some privacy when sitting on your balcony.
The hotel has 2 swimming pools. The hotel has a bar and restaurant next to the beach. I found the hotel prices for food and drink expensive so would recommend you visit one of the many excellent restaurants in Maenam or nearby Bophut. You can either walk into Maenam (about 20-25 mins walk along the main road), or you can walk along the beach. Bophut is about 1.5-2km along the coast.
Bear in mind there is no nightlife in the area (apart from a couple of restaurants/bars just outside the hotel) so would recommend you take the free shuttle bus into Chaweng if you like to be where all the action is. Alternatively head into Maenam or Bophut if quiet restaurants and bars is your scene.
I saw both honeymooners and families at this hotel so it would suit both.
Overall a very nice hotel.
Unique Quality: Nice quiet location on Maenam offering great views across to Koh Pha-Ngan. The beach is very quiet and you can walk in both directions for some distance.
Free shuttle bus to Chaweng. Free internet access in reception.
one of the nicest beach-places which you can easily reach by inland-plane is the island of Koh Samui Koh Samui (เกาะสมุย in Thai language) is the island of the coconut trees and the third largest island in Thailand (Only Phuket and Koh Chang are larger by size).
The total area is about 247 km² and it is located in the Gulf of Thailand, 700 km South of Bangkok in the Surat Thani province. nice accommodation on the island is : Paradise Beach Resort

Does anyone know what this hotel and the surrounding area is like? and are there any restaurants/bars close by and any nightlife? Is the beach ok? I hear there's a village nearby, is there much there?

Please read my review of this hotel at the following link: http://www.virtualtourist.com/m/7dc7d/16186f/3/
Hopefully this should answer most of your questions.
I stayed at this hotel for my honeymoon last July. Maenam is one of the more quieter spots on Koh Samui. If you are looking for a quiet, laid back holiday away from the commercial areas of the island then it would be a good choice. The beach is fine, and is not crowded like some of the other beaches on the island. The sand is not quite as white or powdery as say Chaweng, but I found it fine.
Maenam village is about a 25 minute walk away. There are a good selection of restaurants there, a 7/11 supermarket, etc. It is not a major hub of nightlife, it is more quieter and laid back. If you need to be where all the nightlife is (clubs, bars, etc.) then you will find that in Chaweng. The hotel run a free shuttle bus to/from Chaweng.
Any other questions please let me know.

Hi Dean Thanks for your informative reply, we are now thinking of staying at the Fairhouse Beach Resort on Chaweng Noi Beach, do you know anything about this area? Sue

Hi Sue,
I'm not familiar with that hotel. My general advice for Chaweng would be to avoid anywhere right in the centre. It is noisy with all the traffic and commercialised, places like Burger King, etc. Look for somewhere at the Northern or Southern end of Chaweng, far enough away to escape the noise, but still within reach of the centre of Chaweng for a night out.
Dean.

Hi Dean Looking at the map it looks as though it's the next beach down to the main Chaweng beach so I think it'll be ok Once again thanks for the info Sue
