My son is getting married on Ko Samui August 6th, what are chances of good weather that week. He seems to think should be mostly ok - is he being too optimistic?

not at all - hot, hot, hot with a refreshing mid afternoon shower!
We arrived in Koh Samui very early in the morning without reservations.However at the airport they provide hotel booking service. Some of the hotels that they show you in a bok may be booked out ,however there is always something available at check out time at noon.It's always good to book ahead but don't worry if you don't. Got a bungalow near the beach easily.
One of my best experiences on samui was hiring a jeep and travelling around the island
Not really knowing where I was going, I decided to go inland and stumbled across a rather rough road(I mean rough)that took me atop Lamai mountain. This was a really fantastic surprise, the view is truly amazing, all the surrounding islands & landscape make this a very worthwhile experience
One of the coolest things about flying into Samui is that the airport is done in what you would expect Thailand houses to look like. Thatch hut roofs and all-outdoor facilities, such as baggage claim, add to the allure of the island from the second you step off the plane.
There are over 40 flights per day from Bangkok and several other departure points into Samui.
you can find variety of local and western food in this place, best yet cheap... me and my friend were wonder around chaweng beach and we insisted on having local food. hm... i guess not much tourist know about this place, only a waiter and no diner except us were in the restaurant while we dine in. pad thai chicken and water melon juice... yummy...
Instead of taking a tour, walk up to the waterfall yourself. It is a bit of a hike as you are literally rock climbing over the riverbed all the way up. Neither is the waterfall at the end too spectacular (Wangsaothong
Waterfall - there are a couple more waterfalls in the same area, more impressive). However, it is a great walk and exilerating to do all the climbing. The elephant trekking on the way up is good fun, but they tell you that they take you to the Waterfall and they don't !!!
