Rummana Boutique Resort

Nice but more affordable options available

I stayed at Rummana with a friend from Illinois while traveling through SE Asia. The hotel was nicely kept and comfortable. At approximately $125 a night, this hotel was expensive compared to similar options on Ko Samui (Samui Island Resort $45). I would recommend reserving your first night or two before you arrive and check your hotel out. Then make reservations locally instead of using the internet. You will find much cheaper accomodations at some beautiful lesser known beach resorts that are fantastic! We checked into our own bungalows that were clean and comfortable except for the ants that were everywhere. Even if there is no food in your room there will be ants! I expected this though being in a tropical environment and it was a small price to pay for such a beautiful location. The pathways winded between all the bungalows back to the pool, beach, and restaurant like a tropical maze. They were covered with huge tropical plants and difficult to navigate especially after a couple cocktails! Fish ponds crisscrossed under the paths and next to the bungalows and were filled with tropical fish. The restaurant was pool and beach side with nice views of the sea. The palm trees swayed in the tropical sea breeze and contributed to a relaxing setting. The restaurant was reasonably priced (phad thai $6) considering we were in Thailand and you can eat nice local meals with drinks for a few dollars in town. The pool was huge and had a waterfall pooring into it. A few steps down from the pool was a long narrow stretch of beach. Next door you can rent jet skis, but they are expensive even compared to the U.S. We paid about $30 for a half hour after negotiating, although it seemed like they gave us more like 45 minutes. They will negotiate on the price with you a little bit. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. You can have your laundry done near the entrance to the hotel on the main road. It comes back clean, folded, and smelling fresh. This was a nice place to stay, but probably would not go back because of the price. We found similar accomodations on North Chaweng Beach (Samui Island Resort $45) which is also in a much better location.

Unique Quality: Nice large oceanside pool with poolside restaurant.
