Value For Money Hotel

Booked for 3 superior rooms and were surprised and grateful that we were upgraded to 3 deluxe rooms. Maybe because of the occupany rate at that time (Dec 2008) was super low due to Bangkok Airport being shut down by the riots & demonstrations. The deluxe room is really spacious and every room has a balcony over looking to the swimming pool. Great for family with kids as the room came with 1 double and 1 single bed. Room was very clean and air-condition is very cold. The bathroom has a big bath tub too.

Breakfast bufett provided free was also good. There are corners for asian food & western food. Those looking forward for sausages, bacon, baked beans, eggs ordered to your liking will be glad. Also accommodate kids who like to eat cereals or porridge. There are also at least 3 types of quality fruit juices provided.

Actually the hotel is located at the end stretch of Chaweng Beach. There is a side walk to the beach which take maybe 2-3 minutes of walking. The wave is rather big and the under water current is very strong. So be careful if you are not a strong swimmer. If not just relax at the hotel swimming pool. Fairly big with a jacuzzi and a baby pool.

The location of the hotel is quite far from the town. Although there were many other review saying that it is walking distance to the town, I find it to be quite far (at least 2-3 km), inconvenience & unsafe to walk during night time. If you do not have your own rented car, there is always tuk-tuk waiting. However expect to pay at least 50-100 Baht per pax. For your own sight seeing convenience, rent a jeep which is rather cheap at 800 Baht per day excluding fuel. For single and adventure travellers, rent a motorbike.

Need to warn travellers that food in Koh Samui is relatively very expensive compared to any part of Malaysia, Vietnam or Cambodia. Cannot understand why this is happening in a developing country. A large pizza will cost you at least 550 Baht and pasta around 250 Baht excluding drinks. In Malaysia and Cambodia, it cost only half of that price. Even the entrance fees to any sight seeing spots are super steep starting from 250 Baht onwards.

Koh Samui is an expensive place to vacation or shopping. However massages and reflexology in that island are quite good and affordable. There are many massage shops to choose around at Chaweng Beach.

First House

I stayed at Samui First House in March 2005 and have to say I really did enjoy staying here.
The hotel is a the south end of Cheweng beach and has its own private beach. The hotel has its own massage palour which I would highly recommend at 250Thb (£4/$6) an hour.
the hotel is clean and rooms have A/C, en suite and colour TV.

the cost of a standard room with a double bed is between 1300 - 1700Thb (£21/$39) per night going direct with the hotel but if you use the weblink below www.sawadee.com/hotel/samui/firsthouse/ you will find online promotions, depending on time of year, I got the room for 1050Thb (£15/$27) per night.

Unique Quality: Private Beach.

Samui First House Hotel

Can anyone give me any info on this hotel please...

Just booked my flights from Penang to Koh Samui for 4 nights (22/12/08 to 26/12/08) then back to penang for the new year.
I’am in penang for 30 days with my wife so we are on a budget and this hotel looks ok for the price 10,560 THB 4 nights.
Also on the map there’s a canal at the back of most hotels along that beach! is it bad with mosquitoes.

I would be grateful for some feedback from anyone

Regards Richard

Samui First House is located at the far end of Chaweng. It is quite a distance to walk to the center of Chaweng and if you are going to be in Samui for only 4 nights, that might not be the best location for you - unless you are looking at staying in the hotel almost every night.

Your budget seems to be okay for some other hotels located more in the central of Chaweng. What kind of rooms and facilities are you looking for?

If you need more information, you can write to me at judy@vikingbar.net
