Hotel Near Airport
If like me you need to stay one night in Samui in order to catch an early flight out in the morning, a good choice for accomodation is the Samui Mermaid Resort. Rooms range from 500-1000 baht (at least when I was there). They are on both sides of the road leading into Big Buddha Beach, about 5 mins. from the Samui Airport. Get a room on the beach side if you can, they are nicer. All amenities including 2 pools and a beachside restaurant (food was average). 7-11 and many other food shops about a ten minute walk west on the road. Free shuttle to the airport. Staff is a little surly but who cares.

lack of accommodation
Hi
i'm travelling to thailand and will be in samui on the 28th december for 4 days and then on 1st january go to koh phangan for 3 days! i'm really struggling to find available accommodation as it is new year and also full moon party! i've checked lots of internet searches and still can't find accommodation for under 1500baht on chaweng beach and haad rin. I would be grateful if anyone can help me, time is ticking away and i'll prob have to end up sleeping on the beach! thanking you in advance happy travellers xx

try using http://www.sawadee.com to find a room. there were lots of options on this site that i couldn't find elsewhere.

check out the samui mermaid resort on big buddah beach they have some nice cheep rooms
