Smile House Resort

Recommended but...............................

Our party of four adults and two children rented a “Luxury Family Chalet (3 bedrooms)” at the Smile House. This was booked in January for an April arrival and paid for in full, in advance, through Sawadee.com.

When we arrived we were very disappointed to discover that due to a “mix-up” another family was in our chalet. The management were not particularly apologetic about this, saying we would have to spend the night in a 2 bedroom chalet and then move the following day. They offered to credit us the difference in price between the two chalets.

We were not happy about this and after some argument, the management agreed that the night spent in the 2 bedroom chalet would be free of charge and that a credit would be made to our original credit card by Sawadee. At the end of our stay, when we paid our bill for extras, we were assured that this credit had been passed by Sawadee. We subsequently discovered that this was not the case – we left on the 22nd April and on the 6th May had still not received any credit (subsequently credit has been given to us).

However, this incident aside, we enjoyed the Smile House and Bophut Beach. Our 3 bedroom chalet was comfortable, with a kitchen and sitting room and two bathrooms one of which was en suite with a shower and a spa bath (which did not work)!

The Smile House has two swimming pools set in pleasant grounds and although the chalets are rather close together, we had no problems with noise. We paid a total of 7,190 THB ($191 US/£103 sterling) per night for four adults and two children, including American breakfast, with a reasonable choice of food. Members of staff were generally friendly and helpful, with good service in the restaurant and a wide choice of Thai and European cuisine.

So, despite everything I WOULD recommend the Smile House, but double check your reservations (even if they have been acknowledged) and if you are expecting a credit insist on seeing something in writing before settling your final bill!!!

Unique Quality: Bophut Fishermans Village has a good selection of restaurants and bars, much quieter than some parts of Samui but enough choice to be interesting.
