More about The Waterfront
Paradise regained !!!!
This was our third stay at the Waterfront and it did not disappoint!
We travel extensively and always wonder if we should be trying somewhere else but compromise by going somewhere new at the start of our trip for a new experience so that we can justify returning to the waterfront for the superbly relaxing and entertaining house party atmosphere that we love!
Robin ,Sue their family and staff make you feel that nothing could be too much trouble, the location is superb, right on the waters edge and as if you were on your own little island and yet only moments from the village with its great restaurants bars and shops. The rooms are well appointed and all have a great view of the pretty gardens and the beach. The bar is located on decking at the edge of the beach and is the focus for guest relations. It is a place for interesting conversation, in addition to a nice cold beer or a chiled glass of wine, due to the diversity of the nationality and age range of the guests, but for those ( like us who are not normally the sociable type) you can join in or not as much as you wish. Add to all the above the fact that there is a masseuse on duty all day to provide an excellent massage for £5.00 for an hour and you can see why we can't stay away!!!
This was our first trip to Samui and we chose this hotel from all the comments made on this sight. I must admit that my initial thoughts on reading the comments were that it sounds too good to be true. On arrival we found that everything was as good or better than described.
Rather than repeating what others have said about Sue and Robin and the hotel, I would just add a couple points.
The food and drink served during the day was not only excellent but also they did not charge typical 'hotel' prices which is new to me. Also my wife and I drink a lot of water while away and when I mentioned it to Sue she simply gave us 4 complimentary bottles each day instead of 2. Good customer service or what! By the way if you are a football fan Robin will keep you up to date with scores each day especially Norwich!!

ban jon...your the best!
I will start by saying this place is amazing. after arriving at the most beautiful airport in the world... we were greeted by michael, the very friendly son of robyn and sue, who run the resort. he drove us to the resort and when we got there we were greeted with a chang beer each and were pleasently suprised at how nice the place actually was. robyn had a chat and sue asked our names..... and no matter how many people stay there she remembers EVERYONES names. that was the beauty of the place. u felt welcome where ever u were on the resort. the rooms were very comfortable, the staff were super friendly and when u went to the bar, sue would be sure to introduce you to the whole bar... and we had numerous nights of just sitting at the bar rather than going out to the bars along the fishermans village strip because, we thouroughly enjoyed it. Now.... BAN JON! he was the best thing about this place.. robyn and sue you have got yourself one bloody brilliant night manager/barman on your hands here..... ban jon provided us with so many laughs and loved to have a chat. we spent lots of money at that bar thanks to him lol. but i dont regret it. he is one cool guy and for those of u who do go to waterfront, have a chat with him. because he will be a highlight if u give him the time of day. other than the resort.... u are in such a peaceful place, yet so close to everything. resteraunts are great, the people are super friendly and the food at the resort is outstanding!
so.... whether u meet allan from scotland or bob from wales, u will have a fabulous stay at the waterfront bo phut. the bar is magnificent but the people are better. thanks robyn and sue.
and thanks for the ring ban jon... i wear it everyday and it reminds me to come back and visit! glenno.
As good as posters make it sound
Alot has been said about this boutique hotel, especially recently as it keeps gaining in popularity here on Tripadvisor. When we were leaving Moscow for Thailand Waterfront ranked #3 on TA, but during our stay there it gained ground and now firmly sits as number one, of which I sincerely congratulate Sue and Robin - it is well deserved indeed.
Anyone who can read will surely learn much from other people's posts and make the correct conclusion: so many people simply can't be wrong. Truly, the resort is charming, well-run and best value for money I've seen. It's very relaxed, you can have breakfast till almost noon and take a late night swim in the pool if you feel like it. I got the feeling that any problem would be dealt with quickly and efficiently, however, I didn't actually have a chance to verify it - everything went so smoothly.
In short, I mostly subscribe to the other posters' opinions but it's always good to know all the pros as well as cons and this site being about providing travellers with information, I want to say this: if swimming is important to you, think twice before booking - the pool is small and the sea too shallow to swim, you have to walk (not too far, but still) along the beach to swim.
Hammocks are great, but cocktails could be improved a bit. Food is delicious, compliments to the chef!
In all, this trip convinced me that this type of smaller boutique hotel beats any big/chain hotel easily.
If you liked The Waterfront, you might also enjoy Casa del Mar on the island of Langkawi. Not surprisingly, it now also ranks #1 on TA for Langkawi.
We can't recommend the Waterfront highly enough
Having chosen to stay 13 nights at the Waterfront entirely based on the reviews from this website, we were not disappointed. A truly delightful boutique hotel in the charming village of Bophut. Small and hidden away enough to feel like you are really getting away from it all, yet a 5 minute wander down the road to some fantastic restaurants, we did not even manage to try them all in the 2 weeks we were there! (a good excuse to go back!).
As others have already mentioned, Robin and Sue, Michael, Banjon and the rest of the staff were all so welcoming and did their best to ensure you have a fantastic and relaxing holiday for which we were really grateful. The hotel itself is very stylish and comfortable, and is great for all ages. If only there were hotels like this in every country in the world!
We will be back...

Fantastic place to relac can't wait to go back
Stayed for 9 nights at end of March begining of April had a fantastic stay.
When we landed at Samui we were met by Micheal at the Airport he then took us on a brief tour of Bophut which was good as got to know where the village was even though it was only down the road.
When we got to the Waterfront Sue greeted us along with Leo (their Minature Yorkshire terrier) with a welcome drink she explained breakfast and what facilities they had as they had games, dvds and books you could borrow.
Sue personally showed us to our room and showed us where things were kept. They provide in the room TV, DVD, Safe, Air Con Fridge with Mini bar hairdryer, travel plug. The rooms are cleaned daily and if you require fresh beach towels you only have to ask one of the girls and they'll go and replace them. They've provided a booklet of suggestions for places to eat they also serve food till 7pm as there is so much choice out in the village.
The hotel has a fantastic view of Ko Panghan on a clear day. Whilst we were there more sunbeds kept arriving so there was plenty of them to go round.
They can also arrange any car hire or trips you want to do confirm your flights.
It was a proper family run hotel which made you feel relaxed and comfortable as you get to know people whilst you're there. Either Sue will introduce you to other people or you will just get talking as it was just so chilled. Sue and Robin cannot do enough to make your stay great they put in alot of hours. Their staff are also helpful and friendly.
The village itself is great most of the restaurants are overlooking the beach with a few shops and bars.
Would definately recomend it for couples looking to just have a relaxing holiday with the option to do tours.
We will definately be going back next year.
“The Waterfront” is a lovely personal hotel in a superb location, right on the beach and only a couple of minutes walk to all the lovely quaint restaurants and bars in Bo Phut. From the moment we were met at the airport by Michael, Sue and Robin’s son, to the moment we left we were made to feel very welcome, nothing was too much trouble. It was my husbands 60th birthday the day before we arrived in Ko Samui and my daughter Charlotte had contacted Sue by e-mail and asked if she could arrange a surprise. When we were shown to our room you can imagine my husbands delight to see “Happy 60th Birthday carefully arranged with flower petals on the bed and a lovely bottle of chilled wine in an ice bucket plus vouchers for a Thai massage each within the hotel (which we highly recommend!). On our return home we discovered Sue had gone out of her way to assist Charlotte with her request. We cannot think of a nicer place for a truly memorable holiday. Thank you Sue and Robin and all your lovely staff for making it so.
A Jewel in the Gulf of Thailand
I've just returned from my third visit to The Waterfront (twice last year and once this year..so far!). Situated on the quieter North coast of Samui it is an absolute gem. The owners Robin and Sue Worden are two of the most welcoming people you could ever meet and they run a very laid back and cheerful boutique resort. They are ably assisted by their son Michael and very friendly staff - including Ban Jon (barman and night security - another Singha please!), Lamai, Lek and many more. The overell feeling you get here is of being part of a family and of being looked after - sometimes too well at 2am on the **th glass of white wine round the bar! It's got everything you need for a great holiday - daily breakfast which is inclusive of the price of your room, clean rooms with air-con, mini-bar, TV/DVD, a massage sala next to the pool (Na is the massuese and she's a star), absurdly comfortable sun-loungers round the pool and a couple of hammocks slung between palm trees for good measure. The food is fantastic - particularly Cookie's Tom Yam Goong soup. Awesome! The Waterfront's reputation is well deserved - I just hope that it remains a bit of a secret - fat chance of that with the amount of 5 star reviews coming in! Well done R & S and see you at the bar for a Singha soon! Chris (Room 5) Neale xx
Just stayed at the Waterfront for 10 days and had an excellent stay.
Owners and staff were great, location is in walking distance of some great restaurants (Thai, Italian, Indian and Fusion).
I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to have a relaxing visit to Thailand.
We will be back
The Waterfront Boutique Hotel, Bophut Beach
Imagine arriving in Paradise. This is what arriving at the Waterfront Hotel was like. We were met promptly at the airport (free pickup) by Michael, Sue and Robin Worden's son, who on the way back to the hotel, took us on a little trip down to the Fishermans Village and explained the merits of the different restaurants and places of interest which was very helpful in orientating ourselves. This is within very easy walking distance of the hotel. On arrival at the hotel we were met by Sue and Robin themselves and offered a drink while our luggage magically disappeared to our cute bungalow. We spent a very relaxed time with them in the open air lounge overlooking the pool and the sea with islands in the background and then were taken to our room personally by Sue who showed us around and explained different things to us. We were immediately impressed by the attention to detail in the rooms. All the little things to make you feel at home. A DVD player with a choice of DVD's available in the library, milk for tea in the fridge and flowers on the bed and vases. We booked for 5 days and stayed 11. It was great being introduced to the other guests and being able to have a chat and meet other people if you chose to, as well as Sue and Robin always ready to chat or enquire about your day. What a fabulous place to stay, the beach is almost private as you seldom see anyone else there and the Thai staff are very friendly and ready to help. The most strenuous thing one has to do is to make a decision whether to sit on the comfy wooden deck chairs with puffy cushions next to the pool or on the loungers or hammock under the palm trees or under the thatched bar alongside the pool. Everywhere was spotless and well kept and guess what... free internet! We left knowing that we had made many new friends at the Waterfront Hotel and certainly would recommend this "home from home" to anyone. Well done Sue and Robin!
