by vieviengan

What is the cheapest way to go to Bkk from Ko Samui ? Plane ? Train ? Bus ?

I'll get back to you before 8.00 tonight.

To go cheap you can go by boat+bus
two options
1 leave at 8:00 AM and arrives 8:30 PM 14:00
2 leave at 12:30 PM and arrives at midnight
I did it from KoTao, not too bad

There are a few modes which are not too expensive to travel to Samui.

a. By bus up to Chumpoun, then boat to Koh Samui.
b. By bus all the way to Donsak or Surathani, then transfer to ferry to Koh Samui
c. By AirAsia flight to Surathani, then by bus to ferry port and finally ferry to Koh Samui.
d. By train to Surathani, then bus to ferry port and finally ferry to Koh Samui

All the above option are reasonable.

Travel Tips for Ko Samui

Roads in Koh Samui

by Pomska

In Koh Samui the roads are in pretty bad condition and you should notice that when you are planning your driving in the island. The motorway which goes around the island is in fairly good shape. The main public transportation is covered pick-up trucks which are converted into taxis called songtoas. The fare ranges from 20 baht depending on the distance.

Thai boxing (Muay Thai)

by phil_uk_net

An extremely tough sport, famous now the world over. The serious stuff takes place in Bangkok but smaller stadiums (many for the tourists) exist outside of the capital. This one is at Lamai Beach on Koh Samui.
At a few places I have seen large westerners go into the ring to take on small Thai boxers. They almost always end up on the losing side!

Beach Parties

by clouds111 about The Ark Bar

Keep you ears open for various beach parties that happen on Chaweng Beach (normally at the Ark Bar around near there), although you probably won't miss it as the cars drive round constantly announcing when the parties are. There's some good music, lots of drinking and a wicked atmosphere. The Ark Bar is also a restaurant. Whatever you are comfortable in

Ko Phangan's Full Moon Party

by bsfreeloader

Perhaps the world’s most famous rave, Ko Phangan’s monthly Full Moon Party appeals to all senses. Sound systems thump out techno and club music all along Sunrise Beach, which can be packed with as many as 10,000, neon-adorned revelers from around the globe. Hawkers at hastily erected drink stalls sell “buckets” of booze in all manner of concoctions and a haze of marijuana smoke lingers over the beach. Early in the evening fire dancers draw big crowds, but as the night drags on most partiers either pass out on the beach or join the throngs of drunken dancers inside or outside one of the many clubs. It's one of those experiences, like a parade or a New Year's party, where those people sober enough to smile and pose for all the right pictures and pretend to be having a good time do so to hide the fact they really aren't enjoying themselves. As with similar parties in Brazil and at Spring Break venues, the surf serves as a toilet and the beach literally becomes a cesspool of human waste. And there seems to be an inordinate number of partiers on bad trips or with alcohol poisoning who end up seeking (typically involuntarily) medical attention. It’s definitely not my scene nor my type of music, but the whole thing does appeal in a strange car wreck kind of a way. And it’s easy enough to visit for a few hours by taking one of the many party boats from Ko Samui. The boats run on varying schedules and cost in the 500-600 baht range.
