accommodation

by pappy_kl

hey everyone,
i have been told that getting accommodation is easy in ko samui and there is no need to book. We are a group of 13 ppl and we just don't know whether leaving the accommodation open would be a good idea considering we are going in January and its peak season??? what do you guys think, also we will be there around the full moon party and then we will be heading up to ko phangan.. so do you think we will have any problem finding accommodation or should we book first???

Re: accommodation

by johnaalex

Why not book first - that way you'll be sure of staying where you want at the price you want rather than leaving it until the last minute and having to take what's left?

Re: accommodation

by pappy_kl

yeah i was thinking that, but we want to be flexible with our dates just in case we want to duck off to other islands and then we are not stuck in paying for accommodation that we don't want

Re: accommodation

Booking in advance does not mean paying in advance - most hotels will not charge is you give them 24 hours notice of any change of plans. I have done this several times in Thailand. Just be sure to check the cancellation policy when you make your bookings.

Regards

John

You will have to book in advance if you are going to Samui in Jan.... It is mobbed and accommodation will be very difficult to find (especially for 13!!). Also if you are going to full moon and want to stay in Koh Phangan you will have to book minimum 3 nights, again in advance. The best thing is to stay on samui and get speed boat over and back in same night.
enjoy your trip. If you want a great night check out bar ice samui. or chillout on the beach at the Ark bar. Party central is Green Mango after midnight!!

Travel Tips for Ko Samui

Travel Agencies

by Jmill42

I used travel agencies for all my travel in and out of Thailand. This included to and from Cambodia, Malaysia and Singapore. Through all those dealings I have come to a conclusion as to the mindset that you should have when traveling by way of ground / sea transport in Thailand.

Decide on the tour agency by means of reputation through friends, guidebooks, etc. Purchase your ticket to wherever you want to go. Then, here comes the hard part... let whatever happens happen.

You will receive little sheets of paper with scribble on it that you have to give to some person. This person will give you one or two other sheets of paper to give to various other people. You must show up on time or a bit early to sort through the chaos, but everything does eventually work out. Nothing will make sense, everyone tells you something different, and it will be the most unorganized process known to man... but, it WILL work.

Every time you think it is getting out of hand or too crazy, go ahead and ask someone for clarification. The answer will be different than the previous person, but go ahead and trust this one. Everyone will be nice and courteous, as long as you are. Just stay calm and smiling and you will get where you want to go.

Full Moon Party on Koh Pangan

by sven_couberg about Had Rin beach

Every month on a different date thousands of people gather on Had Rin beach to celebrate the full moon. This is just one wild party !!!! Non-stop dancing until the next day whatever you want but make sure you keep on wearing some shoes or sandals to avoid nasty cuts

Tuk Tuk

by aussirose

Of course you can jump on the local bus - the Tuk Tuk.

This was one thing I would have loved to experience because hubby and I did similar in Tahiti. ......but, oh well....next time ;o)

A great view

by jamiesamui about Sandies(Silver Sand Resort)

Sandies (formally called Silver Sand)is situated on Chaweng Beach.
Recently renovated Sandies offers an excellant range of both Local, western & Seafood as you sit right on Chaweng Beach.

Sandies offer both a dayime & dinner menu (slightly more expensive)& also different types of entertainment on selected nights which for me is a nice way to relax & fill in a couple of hours before you head out for further Samui adventures. All the food here is good,I particularly enjoy the Tom Yum Mixed Seafood Soup also deep fried shrimp and the satay chicken sticks are enjoyable, particularily in the afternoon while enjoying a cold beer.

Big Buddha

by Sajt

Near Ko Samui you find an other smaller island with a beautiful temple. This place have the Big Buddha. The hole thing is gold. If you want to visit this place be sure you have long pans. They don't like shorts. You have to pay for photos. You can visit this place if you have a motor bike.
