cheap accommadation in chaweng

by sezabell

is there such a thing?
thought we would give chaweng a go this time as we normally stay in maenam but as this is a girls trip we thought we might stay were the shopping is handy so we dont have to travel far.are there cheap places to stay or bungalows on the beach? is every thing in walking distance from either end of the beach or would you have to stay right in the middle to not have to use transport?

Hi

What is your budget?

Re: cheap accommadation in chaweng

by rrrkkng

bungalows on the beach can't be cheap, try Sawadee.com >> Samui >> where to stay >> Chaweng Beach, you can find some hotel rates as low as 500 Bahts/night, hope this can help.

budget up to 800 baht a night

You can try P&P. This is not a bangalow but is located at the beach.

Otherwise, you can also try Cozy Corner but this is not at the beach.

When will you girls be here? Prices are higher in the coming up season.

From one end of Chaweng to the other end, it would probably take you about 30 minutes to walk. It is quite far. But since you like shopping, the walk can be very interesting and probably will run into a few hours. You can always stop for drinks, snacks etc. And if you are really tired, then you can take the local Songteow which is quite inexpensive. From one end of Chaweng to the other end, it should cost about 30 to 50 baht per person.

Travel Tips for Ko Samui

Bear necessities

by phil_uk_net

While on my jeep safari we stopped at an elephant training place so that some of the people on the trip could take a ride. Besides elephants there was a variety of other fauna including monkeys and this bear cub. I am not a bear expert but as it was in Thailand am guessing it is an Asiatic black bear?
The guy on the left doesn't seem too keen.

7-Eleven

by Princess_Emily about 7-Eleven

The name says it all. This is probably the best known convenient store on Samui and in Asia. Providing all the basic survival items plus a kids corner. My favorite item can be found in all the shops and is located just inside the entrance way, air-conditioning. Mosquito repellent

Hire a bike!

by gunnor

The best way to get aroud the island is by motorbike. for 100-150 B/day you can hire a Honda dream. You can easily drive round the island on one day. Make a stop at Bophut and Menam beach. Relax and enjoy yourself! Make a stop in Nathon for shopping and dinner. But never drive if you have been drinking alcohol, there are too many traffic accidends anyway!
If you drive on the hill roads, be careful! Some roads are really bad!

Thai-Californian Fusion Cooking

by Yvonne79 about Betelnut Restaurant

As I love fusion cooking, we decided to have dinner at the Betelnut one evening. The restaurant specializes mainly in Thai-Californian fusion cooking, but says to use ingredients and techniques from all over the world. We were not disappointed. The dinner we had was indeed extraordinarily tasty! It was probalbly the best food we had on the island.

The restaurant has, however, also its downside. The restaurant is in a sidestreet off the Chaweng main road in a rather small and bald venue. So if you look for a romantic place this might not be your first choice.
What also disappointed ma a bit was that the owner of the restaurant was present, but only greeted the (only!) other guests, because he knew them. I thought it would have been a nice gesture to ask all guests if everything was ok and they liked their food. But then, this does of course not belittle the food, which was really great and service in general was very friendly.

The restaurant is certainly more expensive than most restaurants on the island, but I think it is worth the price. For starters we had the clam chowder with green curry and the chicken wontons with sweet hot sauce. Main courses were the Argenine beef filet and a special that I unfortunately don't remember what it was. Anyway, everything was extremely good and I don't think that you can go wrong with anything they have on the menu.

With the tiger in a cage...

by sandravdp

...sounds unbelievable doesn''t it? But it really is possible to step in a tiger''s cage. I tries it. I was really frightened, but it was so cool.

The caretaker of the tiger first went in the cage with a bottle of milk. Then I went in. I had to sit behind the tiger and stroke him with my hand. He felt not very soft, his hairs were very rough and he was very warm.

For the picture the caretaker put away the bottle of milk, for just a few secs.
