Re: weather check

by eggin

hei there
i have just been to railay beach and ao nang beach (all together for 9 nights) and there were no floods...
we had 2 days of rain where it rained all day in ao nang and a couple of hours of rain at railay
but apart form that the weather was perfect for us ( which means a bit of sunshine but mostly cloudy so not too hot)

Re: weather check

by fital69

thanks eggin,

how do you find the season? low or peak right now?
many tourist there?

any good restaurant i should try?

cheers

Re: weather check

by eggin

well there are heaps of restaurants..but most of the time we eat at the motorbike mobile restaurants (hope you know what i mean) because they are really cheap and very good
when we were there, there where a few tourists but not to many...eventhough now we are in chumpon and i think the tourists here you can count them on 2 hands...
:)
feels a bit weired when everybody looks at you but you get used to it ;)
it is very intresting i you are in the very non tourist places...eventhough it is really hard to find something as there is hardly anything written in english ;)
so when are you exactly arriving?

Re: weather check

by fital69

i see, not many tourist huh

will arrive this Friday, from KL

good night spot to hangout? prefer live band

i'll be staying at Ginger Chic, right between aonang and Naraphot Thara beach
is it worth to get on the long boat and check out railway area?

I'm going from the 27th. I wonder if the rain is all day? I was hoping for clear blue skies and hot hot sun !

Travel Tips for Krabi

Be patient with your food, or the cook...

by jackiesg

Krabi, a beautiful place and gives one a very relax feeling.

People there are truly friendly and easygoing.

Maybe it's their lifestyle that they take things slow and easy, my food always (actually it's everytime) comes served after a long wait. For all my dinning experience in Krabi, no matter it's open-air hawker stalls or restaurants, the wait for my food to be served is never less than 30 mins after ordering.

So friends, go find food before you're very hungry, bcos if not, you'll turn very angry instead. :P Order some drinks first, sit back and relax or chat with your friends bcos even the starters like deep fried spring rolls can take some time too.

Lang Rongrian

by Aidy_p

I can only say a few Thai words and I was in a foreign land. So when a driver who was sending me back to my hotel asked, "Want to see cave?" you can say that I was more than a little apprehensive.

I would not mind exploring if I was alone. But I'd my wife and my little girl with me. But the more adventurous side of me prevail. I got a consensus from my wife and the reply that came out was "Yes! sure!"

I soon found out the true reason why the driver had suggested that location. His house was nearby the cave and he had hoped to stop by for lunch. The time was 4pm and he was too polite (Like most Thai people) to say that he has not eaten.

When we reached the cave, the driver quickly scuttled back home to bring along his candles to the cave - Lang Rongrian.

The excitement was just beginning. If you're a Archeology buff, keep your ears peeled.

Looking at the signboard which was planted at the entrance of the cave, I'd managed to pick up a couple of interesting facts about this cave. This archeological site dates back some 37,000 years.

This cave shelter is the oldest archeological site in the whole of South Thailand. When I stepped in, the cave gave me a very homely feel. This was home to so many families along the years. Men going out to hunt, the children playing at the mouth of the cave. Can just imagine the buzz of activities.

It felt like the cave had started to close in on me as I went deeper into it. It reached a point where if I had wanted to go deeper, I'd have to go on my hands and knees. Everything in front of me was pitch dark. My driver then threw a beam of light towards the cavity and my eyes followed the light. It could only illuminate that much.

My driver told me that you can go on for kilometres and still not see the end of the cave. I will take that as the truth. I bet you will too.

Extracting a sentence from a report I found online:-

"Lang Rongrian overlaps the period when homonids may have been evolving to Homo Sapiens, which was also a time of lower sea levels."

Wanna's Place

by Carino about Wanna's Place

Wanna's Place is serving very delicious thai dishes but has also some swiss dishes on the menu. Being swiss, I didn't try them. But the owner is swiss, therefore the dishes should be yummy. I had Som Tam (70 THB), which was very spicy and very, very yummy. Later on I had Fried Chilly on rice with chicken (80 THB). That was also quite good. Large Singha comes at 100 THB.

Elephant Trekking

by tony-c

You can book half a day Elephant Trekking In The Jungle on the outskirts of Ao Nang Bay, 750 Baht pp for this they will collect you from your hotel, take you to the location, The actual trek last about 45 mins then you can feed the elephants and watch them take a wash, This trip is well worth it and you can book with any local travel agent.

No need to take sun lotion as you are in the shade of the trees, just take your camera.

Climbing

by Jez79

Krabi has become a mecca for climbers from all parts of the globe. The limestone cliffs provide an abundance of climbing opportunities, from beginner to more advanced. There are pleanty of businesses hiring/ selling climbing gear, and it's not hard to find people to climb with. In the time we were there we only met one other person who wasn't a climber. Early morning and late afternoon are the busiest times along Ton Sai beach. To find the best spots, you can ask the locals or any of the other climbers.
