Speed Boat from Krabi to Phi Phi

by PNE-Woo

Will be arriving in Krabi on Sunday 27th Dec late afternoon (possibly 16.00hrs or later). We need to get to Phi Phi as we are booked into a hotel there but unfortunately I have noticed that the last ferry from Krabi to Phi Phi is 15.00hrs. Does anyone know of any other ferries/speedboats etc that leave later than 15.00hrs. Any info, (websites etc) would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Woudn't it be easier to postpone/change your arrival date instead of rushing to get to Phi Phi Don since you're still 6 months out? I guess you could always hire a private speedboat transfer but suspect it'd be expensive. Have heard of a seaplane that operates to PP but I don't know the details.

Have now decided to stay over in Krabi for one night and catch the ferry the following day (28th Dec). Can anyone recommend an hotel for one night in Krabi or will most places be full being the Christmas period?

Many thanks

Travel Tips for Krabi

The James Bond Discovery Tour

by M0B1US

I cannot recommend this tour more highly! Built around the theme of James Bond's 'The Man with the Golden Gun', it is a high quality and fun adventure tour with a little bit of everything that this area has to offer...

Outlined is a brief itinerary, which I will expand upon with individual entries in the 'Must Do Activities' section.

08:00-08:15 - Pick up from room by air-con bus by the friendly guide. The pick up was bang on time and we had an enjoyable drive through the countryside past towering kharsts to get to the longtail boats.

10:00 - board long tail boat to enjoy viewing the spectacular limestone kharsts of Phang Nga (The National Park), the surrounding mangrove forests bordering the wide rivers out into the bay towards James Bond Island

11:00 -Visit the amazing Koh Tapoo better known as" James Bond Island".

12:00 - At Koh Talu you board a junk to join experienced guides and explore by canoe the amazing limestone caves and a close up view of the mangrove forests

12:30 - Lunch is a wonderful meal on the Muslim floating village of Koh Panyee

13:30 - Return to Phang Nga by Longtail boat to board the bus for the last part of the tour

15:00 - Arrive at the Island Safari Elephant camp. After meeting the elephants, you then climb aboard one and take a short trek along a stream through the forest.

Next you are shown how the locals tap rubber trees and produce natural rubber latex.

Finally you are treated to an elephant show including having a baby elephant give you a massage...

17:30 - Arrive Back at your room If you do just one package tour while you're around Ao Phang-Nga - be sure you take this one!!!

With many operations, the operators try their best to maximise profits by running everything on the cheap. Not here, the little things like the chilled water bottles and hot face towels handed out during the tour and things like the amazing sit down lunch provided as part of the tour where the food was of the highest quality and far too much for us to finish impressed me that these operators clearly wanted us to have as good a time as possible!

The whole tour was fantastic, with everything being just about the right length of time for each activity. The elephant ride for example took about 30 minutes and whilst great fun, it wasn't the most comfortable experience and I really pity anyone electing to go elephant riding for a whole day as your body would be an aching wreck!

My favourite 3 things were standing in front of the James Bond Island, the whole of the canoeing trip which was fantastic! And lunch on the floating village - truly an unexpected banquet!

The cost for a whole day's adventure? Normally around 1,600B ex Krabi, though we managed to negotiate down to 1,450B - a little over £20 for everything!

James Bond Experience: 11/10!

Seeing How Thais Live

by Aidy_p

Sometimes it's good that you travel on your own. but also, there are times when you get a guide to bring you around, you'll get to unadulterated experience of how the Thais live.

Our guide not only showed us Krabi, but he also opened his home to us. It was an attap house with a pond that his family uses to rear catfishes to be sold in Krabi Town.

We even had the opportunity to meet his family and also his daugther. He shared with me that his wife had passed away of cancer and thus, he moved out of his home into the city, while his entire family continues to stay in the attap house. He also mentioned that his house taps electricity from a nearby school and he has to pay 300Baht each month for their usage.

Eat one nasty bugger

by sourbugger about Sea house travel & Restaurant

The laid back atmosphere of this restaurant has been created by the enterprising owner. She used to work for one of the big airlines as a senior flight attendant - and so has a command of languages and hospitality that is hard to beat.

She buys in her food in the morning - so there is an element of chance involved.

Open all day, and if you become a 'regular' you get the first choice of DVD shown in the evening. Being Krabi they can also take care of all the other tourist arrangement - hotels, transport, trips etc. On the two night we visted the place we were totally taken with the superb dish of Barracuda fish. They were fat and plump, unlike the picture pf Barracuda fish that I found, but it must be the type they get around Thailand - the middle aged spread caused by gorging on tourists swimming thinking they were Leonardo DeCaprio on "The beach"

Hat Tham Pra Nang

by gib157

Hat Tham Pra Nang can be reached by boat from either Railey East or West. Theres no point really as there is a walkway from Railey East under the base of the cliff emerging on the East side of the beach. I couldnt believe how empty this beach was, especially after just coming fom Railey West. Both beautiful beaches but HTPN is spectacular. The beach gradient is deeper allowing for better swimming and the water is an amzing hue. A huge karst formation rears up out of the sea and is mirrored by the southern end of Railey West.

Gastropod Fossil

by AshleeS

It was something different. There are some little shops around to buy stuff. The staff were at luch so we got in free but I think it was something like $3 I am not too sure. You walk around and go to different sites were there are different fossils and such.
