where in Krabi?
by seagypsy
Hi OP Jane,
when you say Krabi are you referring to the town of Krabi or to the province because there are towns such as Ao Nang or Railey West that would meet your family's needs with swimming pool. Anyways, was in the area last month and it wasn't that busy so you could elect to wait until you arrive to shop around and see the places for yourself BUT major discounts are given by hotel websites which would be much cheaper than 'off the street' or 'walk-in' rates.
As for beaches, Raileh West is much nicer than Ao Nang. Napporat Bech which is west of Ao Nang is very shallow at low tide so you kids might enjoy chasing small crabs in the mud flats. Overall, Raileh West's beach is beter and there are areas that are roped off to protect beach-goers from longtails and speedboats.
Krabi town

We took the local bus to Krabi town. The night markets open from 5pm and closed around 9pm. We did some shopping here and tried some local delicacies at this market.
The stalls in the market are mainly run by Muslims.
Ko Phi Phi Ferry

Although Ko Phi Phi is equidistant from Phuket and Krabi, it is more economical to take the journey from Krabi as it is a far less touristy location.
The journey itself takes about four hours from the well placed Jao Fah pier on the waterfront with boats running regularly between November and May for less than 200B each way.
There are about four boats daily and it is an idea to arrive early as these ferries are always rammed with backpackers.
Of course, if you base yourself in Krabi and just go over for a day or so you won't have to worry about carrying your bags - rooms were so cheap at the Star Guest House that we actually used one for a day as a 'locker' for our bags on our last day here...
Lumbering Giants - Elephant Trekking
by Aidy_p
If you have not done this ride in any other parts of Thailand, then try it in Krabi. We tried the one-hour ride which in true essence, only lasted for 45 minutes.
This was the very first time my wife, my little girl and I were trying out this ride. The height scared my little girl quite a bit, but we managed to pull through with the soothing words of the mahout, or the elephant trainer. He even plucked for her a handful of flowers. So sweet of him.
The ride was slow, and there was not too much scenery, but the breeze and the rocking motion of the beast made me sleepy....yawwn...but overall, it was an experience to cherish.
KOH PAI...blue waters and corals
by travelagent4thailand
This littler island known as KOH PAI...pai known as bamboo in thai, but i do not think that the name has any relations to the bamboos.
Warm and clear waters and much of the underworld becomes an aquarium!
Small and medium sea fish in arrays of colors swim right infront of your diving masks! Corals and sea fans weaving in symphony to the orchestral movements of the gentle under currents! Silver spoon fish glittering the wealth of these waters!
Get into the waters!
