Stayed at the Krabi resort about three years ago and would go back because of the location. Beach on one side and shops etc on the other.

Travel Tips for Krabi

Shopping - Always remember to HAGGLE!

by vyxxyn

Most shopkeeps try to sell their wares at over 300% the general market price, so it is good to bargain. When they name a price, state that you're prepared to pay one third that and walk away. Chances are they will call you back and negotiate. Don't limit your haggling to little shops by the beach. Some "upmarket" stores and restaurants allow that too. A profit of 100B may mean nothing to you but is already alot for them, that's like 4 decent full meals!

Stalls in Ao Naung further from the beach tend to charge less so those will give you an idea of the prevailing market prices.

Here's the general price list of common items, of course it differs slightly from shop to shop:
1 pair wooden chopsticks: 25Baht (B)
Table set of 4pairs chopsticks with rests, saucers and mats: 250B
Thaiboxing shorts: 200B
Printed T-shirt: 150B

Lastly, try not to get anything from the airport unless you really need them. Prices are double that outside plus you can't bargain :(

Karst-climbing

by don_thomas

You can climb one of the karst-peaks! It looks just awesome. Just book a tour at one of the hotels or agencies around. Too bad I didn't have the time to do this. But I'll be back (as a famous "senator" once said...)

Resturant Row

by AshleeS about ???????

There is a row of resturants right on the water, where you catch the long boats. It is absolutley amazing, this was one of my favorite spots. There were like 10 or so we went to 4 I believe. The closest one to the road had a huge ice-cream menu, it was good we had milkshakes and fries. There was an italian resturant which I had pizza it was also quite good, it is the one with the alforno oven. We went to the one also that was the farthest from the street, I only had a sundae that night becasue I had a mild case of sun stroke so I didn't feel well enought to even be outside so I went back to the hotel and had a swim to cool off. Try to go at sunset to catch the best view. Italian Resturant, with pineapple pizza. Expensive however compared to almost all the meals we had on the whole trip.

Snorkeling

by LenaFIN

Snorkeling is a great way to look underneath the surface and all the beautiful sealife. Unfortunately I never got the opportunity to go to Pee Pee Island but maybe next time! I was really satisfied with Kah Poda and Chicken Island. At the end of our stay the weather was a bith windy so it was difficult to snorkel and swim.

If you go to Pee Pee Islands (or just to Poda) a tip is to buy a underwater kamera and take pictures with it. You can get one for about 350 bath.

Chicken Island wasnt what I expected, it was really small and there were many other tourists and a some trash that tourist have left behind. Chicken island got its name from a bizarre rock formation which resembles the head of a chicken. One end of the island consists of steep cliffs, while the other end has beautiful beaches along a peninsula. This peninsula gets flooded at high tide, creating a small island.

Elephant ride

by winnietankl

Elephant is not common to city people and riding it even more exciting which is totally different from riding bicycle. Not least, the baby elephant show can make you laugh and open your heart. 400 baht (about 11.50 USD) per ride which cross the river and jungle, believe me, it's worth it!
