Never Ever...
by Aidy_p
Have fun with the people in Thailand, but never do things that will cause you harm. For example, items like the Thai flags and also their elephants are well-respected. Pictures of their King is also adorned in all public buildings and even homes.
Refrain from saying things about the King nor try to deface his picture. recently, one Swiss guy did just that and he got 10 years jail for his artistic effort.
Night Life?
by Svitata about Short strip at Ao Nang beach
The only active night life is to be found at the short strip at Ao Nang beach. It only has a few crowded bars as the place is not that developed yet. Besides, most travellers are more concerned about going to the beach and doing sea sports! Very casual
Motorcycle Streetside Vendors
by M0B1US about A new Definition of 'Fast Food'...
Thailand's small towns and villages have numerous mobile canteens ready to sate your hunger pangs at a moments notice.
This really does seem to be the Thai answer to fast food as most meals can be bought and tucked into in a matter of minutes, instead of sitting at a table and waiting for ages.
These particular vendors were often stationed directly below our balcony at the Star Guest House and part of the fun was watching the vendors selling their food to a steady stream of customers.
Another great thing about these culinary sidecars is that once their owners get home after a day on the road, they can unhook their bike and head out for the night.
It's also interesting to note the relative prosperity between Thailand and say Indonesia, where the same kind of street vendors have to push their mobile stalls on foot... These come in many different 'flavours'...
From the humble vendor selling nothing but some kind of Thai delicacy involving boiled eggs, to more elaborate set ups selling full meals, there isn't much you can't get from these vendors.
The beauty of these vendors is that you can see all the ingredients being freshly prepared in front of you, so you can easily check the quality before you buy. Also the majority of the customers are local Thais, which again means that the vendors are less likely to be unscrupulous as well as the fact that you should be guaranteed a geniune Thai food experience.
Last but certainly not least is the fact that these vendors have the lowest prices you'll find and you should be able to walk away with a full belly for mere pennies...
Phra Nang beach
by Gard
Most people associate Krabi with beautiful beaches. I have to say that the Ao Nang beach itself is not a great beach and we only tried to swim there once. When we got into the water the seabed felt kinda muddy and it felt like we were bitten by something. Quite spooky actually.
But one day we took the boat out to Phra Nang beach which is located about 10-15 minutes away. This is quite a nice beach and the only “problem” was the people that were walking back and forth trying to sell us stuff. We also stopped by West Railey beach on the way to Phra Nang and that also looked very nice. And from Ao Nang/Phra Nang you can also look over to the white beach located on Koh Poda so I don’t think that you will have trouble finding a nice beach if you go to Krabi.
Ao Thalen Canyon - Kayaking among the mangroves
by iNorv9
We went sea kayaking through the beautiful Ao Thalen Canyon with Art Canoeing. As far as the kayaks go, there are usually 2 or 3 paddlers per.... our third member happened to be one of the guides, who ended up doing most of the paddling and all of the steering. That said, even for a two person canoe, the paddling isn?t that strenuous. Along the trip we navigated through leafy mangroves, impressive 200m-high limestone cliffs, and even fed some macaque monkeys from our kayak.
Quick tip: We took the afternoon half-day tour, which a good length for us. The other people in our paddling group were on the full-day tour, and apparently they just repeated the same route as the morning.... so I'd ask of the itinerary ahead of time before committing to the full day.
Cost: about $20 for a half-day tour, round-trip transportation included.
Bottom-line: The Ao Thalen Canyon is a great location for kayaking: beautiful scenery and gentle currents. Makes for a good half-day trip.
