Train to Krabi?

by Isabelllla

Hello all. I'm planning to arrive in Bangkok and take a train to Krabi.
Is there any possibility? thanks

Re: Train to Krabi?

There is no direct train to Krabi.

If you want to go by train from Bangkok you will have to get off at Phun Phin about 14km away from Surat Thani and from there get a bus or minibus to krabi.

If you want to go direct to Krabi then Book a V.I.P. Bus at the southern bus terminal in Bangkok for a comfortable ride with few stops, they have an office outside the bus station.

For a cheaper bus trip book one through the Travel agents but all the buses end in Surat Thani and everybody gets on little Minbuses to wherever they are going. Surat Thani is a bit of a transit hub for everybody going south.

Either way the trip will take a good 12 hours and done over night.

The train completely by-passes the Andaman coast. You may get to Krabi by train + bus tough, take the train to Surat Thani. Surat Thani to Krabi takes about two hours.

You can make a combined train + bus reservation in one step at

http://www.traveller2000.com/train/reservation.htm

Their handling fee is 300 THB or roughly $10. IMO quite a lot - but if you want to have peace of mind...

The relevant train schedule is here:

The train #85 sounds like a good idea, the first class sleeper is under $45. It's air-conditioned, so make sure you won't get cold!!!

2nd class sleeper (resembling couchette in Europe, "section sleeper" in Canada, "platskartny" in Russia and "hard sleeper" in China, closest to section sleeper perhaps) is IMO adequate. The cost being in $15 - $25 range is a joke, see the prices. 30 THB = $1 roughly.

Do you have a special reason for travelling by train? Personally I can't understand anybody making the Bangkok - Krabi trip by train or bus when it is so much easier and quicker and can be cheap to fly with Air Asia (especially if you are flexible on dates and can book early)

Travel Tips for Krabi

Lonely on the beach!!

by heitim

If you take a longtail boat and visit some island near Ao-Nang, then you can njoy the beach alone! Not overcrowded beaches at all What can I say... most beautiful beaches and best seafood restourants in the world. I miss it so much right now.

Tham Phra Nung Nai (Inner Princess Cave)

by Waxbag

This large limestone cave is considered by many to be the most impressive cave in Thailand. There is a wooden catwalk through the cave and lights within to assist those interested in seeing the treasures inside. The limestone formations inside were amazing. The first major one we came to looked like a sparkling waterfall without the water. The mica caused the stone to sparkle and there were pools worn away from the stone. When looking from top to bottom, one could see in their minds??s eye, water tumbling down the stone to a plateau with a slight depression then down to another and another all of the way down to the ground. As we walked further, we saw many stalactites and other unique rock formations. ??

West Railay Beach

by travelpug

West Railay is located on a peninsula attached to Krabi, but only accessible by boat. On the same peninsula, there are 3 other beaches (Tonsai, Railay East, and PraNang).

West Railay is a beautiful bay with limestone cliffs flanking on the sides. Water is not too shallow or too deep. It's a perfect spot for swimming. Accommodations are available. Ranges from 5 star resort to basic hut. This area is not as busy as Aonang Beach, but it is more peaceful and beautiful.
