Good East Railay Beach Accommodation

Railay Beach provides every level of accommodation that you could want, from one of the top resorts in the world, frequented by those we termed the "Bubble People", (because you'd never see them outside it's walls), to basic straw huts with no power or running water (about $1.50 a night).

We were here at the beginning of October, so prices would have gone up somewhat during peak season, but for $12 a night between the two of us the Diamond Private Resort gave us everything we could want and more.

Unique Quality: Private bungalow with huge bathroom, two king sized beds, A/C, Fan, cable TV, refrigerator and front porch where you can sling your hammock.

There's also a private pool where we would end up with a beer after a day of climbing or treking.

I have not stayed there, but according to the list of hotels and there state since the tsunami provide by the Phuket Gazzett (http://www.phuket.com/hotel-status.htm?ref=200522112524) it looks like the their swimming pool and the beach restaurant have been damaged and are shut at the moment. I suggest you contact them to check.

Also, April in the Andaman Sea area is the transition month into the Monsoon Season, so it's possible you'd be hit with big storms at that time of year although it's impossible to predict. The islands in the Gulf of Thailand are safer/better options then.

Hi

I stayed there in August last year and have to say 'Resort & Spa' is taking things a little too far.

It's basically a bungalow operation that has been upgraded with a small low-rise hotel style block and then a couple of 'suites' close to the pool. Both of these looked nice but if you're paying extra for those rooms, the rest of the services don't live up to the cost. Breakfast is a buffett and goes down as the worst I've ever seen or eaten - they seemed to think that as it was included in the price it was ok serving the stuff that should have been hot, cold and visa versa. And don't get me started on the SPA - 3 moaning women who chat loudly all through whatever treatment you're having and charge far too much.

However for all my moaning, we did have a good time there and the pool was a nice treat. My tips - book a normal bungalow and you'll get a reasonably priced concrete room which is clean and has a fridge and small balcony to sit out on. And save your spa money for the ladies who work on the beach - much better and much nicer.

Railay is beautiful and that part of Thailand can certainly do with as many tourists as they can get right now so please don't let me put you off - just don't be fooled by the flashy website piccies.

We stayed at the Diamond Private Resort at the end of East Railay beach and were very happy with the accommodations. I have a photo on my page. Our room was a cabin, but we had a huge bathroom, two king sized beds, A/C, fan, fridge, TV and the pool is very nice. We were there in October and it cost us $12 a night. Railay is a nice place.
