Railey Beach with a toddler?

by frederikranke

Is it to much of a hazzle just to get to Railey beach to even consider going there with a one year old toddler?

If you guys are taking your baby on long-haul flight from Oslo to TH, I think going to Railay would not a problem anymore. =)

It's just a matter of carrying your baby from the shore to the long-tail boat and the ride is just under 20minutes from Ao Nang to Railay.

Railay is less crowded than Ao Nang due to its location.

What hotel/resort are you staying?

Shouldn't be a problem. Just keep in mind, there are no medical facilities at Railay. You would have to go to Ao Nang or Krabi Town. We just went to Railay in October and loved it! It's absolutely beautiful! I posted lots of tips and pics on my Krabi page.

Thanks to both of you! How late is it possible to arrive? Are the long tail boats running in the evening? We would probably arrive by plane around 20:00hrs, will that be to late to get to the beach?

Kind regards and Merry Christmas

Yes, that is late and the tide is out but make the arrangements with the place you are staying at for the transportion. They may accomodate you. Even if the tide is out, they have these tractors that will pick you up at the boat. The cab ride from the airport to boat launch is about 15-20 minutes. Then it's another 15-20 minutes from the launch to Railay.

Thanks once again! Final question... Do the taxies have "child seats" or is that uncommon? I have been to Thailand/Malaysia several times, but not as a father and have never thought about these things!

I don't think so. I never saw it. In fact, I saw an entire family (4 people) on a motorcycle many times. The dad is driving with a kid tucked in front of him then mom, sitting behind dad, is holding the baby in her arms!

After such a long haul, why not spend just a night in Krabi-town before heading off to Railey or Ao Nang. No real need to push to get all the way to 'paradise'. A nights rest in Krabi will ease the stress of having to get there right away, especially if it's a place that you haven't visited before.

With regrds to toddlers, NO, you've got to bring your own carrier/stroller, baby snuggler/carrier.

Travel Tips for Krabi

Toilets

by clouds111

Despite being relatively westernised many of the public toilets in/around Krabi are squat toilets (not so much in restaurants), with a bucket of water next to it for flushing. My advice, always carry toilet paper with you. Even in the western loos, paper isn't always available or you may be charged for it.

Krabi

If you are staying out in Ao Nang, Krabi itself is a little off the beaten track! 30 minute pick up truck journey will get you there. TYpical Thai town - grid like layout with plenty of shops and cafes to while away the time. You may want to take a boat trip (1 or 2 hours) out to the water caves - pick up the boat at the ferry point. 1 hour will take you to the caves, 2 hours through the waterways and past the riverside villages and out to the sandbar.

Drink and Pizza by the sunset beach

by Sambawalk about Railey Bay Resort Restaurant

Railey bay is also called as sunset beach as the sun sets in front. I was there to enjoy beer and pizza while the sun was setting. an excellent place to relax after a long day of sun soaking, bathing, or whatever sea activities.

Hawaiian pissa 120 baht. Beer 100 baht, but you need to get from the nearby pub as this restaurant does not serve beer.

rock climbing

by pehsan

it was the spectacular experience i never thought i could do. i made a booking from my simple beach side fan bungalow for a whole day rock climbing. the climb cost me 1500baht for whole day inclusive lunch and a free t-shirt from cliffman's climbers. if you just want to try-out u may book for the half day package cost 800 baht exclude lunch and t-shirt.
my first time advanture started out at 9.00am in the morning and a van pick us up at our bangalow to ao nang beach. after 15 mins boat ride to railey beach we walked to "cliffman's climber" with excitment and curiosity... my senses were telling me this will be my best experience in krabi once my eyes were on all the climbing tools display on the shelf.
time flew by and our batteries were down, before i knew it...it was time for us to leave. it has been 1 hour behind the schdule and we had to wait for hours for the long tail boat to send us back. when the long tail boat was in view, you have to walk in the water with your pack and get on the boat from the shore. (that was my first experience too which i dun really want to experience it again...). but it might be unforgetable moment for some love birds strolling in the water hand in hand...hee...

Pranang Cave

by mary2u99

Pranang Cave is attached to the main land & is accessible from Railey Bay. Just a short walk ahead is the princess cave with a decorative spirit house. We just lay at the beach and took a short nap and had a foot massage.

This is also where you can see "Princess Cave" or Tham Phra Nang Nok in Phra Nang beach. Local fishermen believe this is the home of a mythical sea princess.

There are a few long tail boats that sell fresh fruit & shakes i.e. orange, mango, pineapple for 30 baht. They also have baguette i.e. ham, cheese, tuna & egg baguette for 60 baht and sandwich i.e ham, cheese, tuna & egg, chicken sandwich for 40 baht or pad thai, fried rice for 50 baht

Bring sunscreen or suntan and drink plenty of water. It was a fun day and we were provided pack lunch and water so nobody would get dehydrated.
