Krabi has shops just like other Thai towns only the bargins are not as great. I enjoy the beaches and make sure you go out on the tours to snorkel and islands hop(about 10 USD per person) Go out to the beaches on low tide and you can walk out as far as 300 yards to the sea, it's incrediable! You can pick up star fish and see crabs all over the place. I will post my pictures of Krabi tonight so that you can see the beautiful scenery they have there. Enjoy Krabi and do not let the protesters ruin your vacation. Tommy x

I found the prices in Krabi (Ao Nang) to be much the same as the rest of Thailand. There are a lot of Indians selling at the stalls so be prepared to bargain. Lovely people the southern Thais. A bit less grumpy than Bangkok and Phuket. Kids will say 'hello' etc.

Travel Tips for Krabi

Ao Nang Map

by Jez79

Exploring: rather than staying in a resort or spending EVERY day lying on the beach, make the most of what Krabi has to offer and go exploring. As I've mentioned in my tips, there are pleanty of things to do at Krabi, from a meditation retreat, temple visit, or thai cooking class to climbing, hiking or various water based activities. Even just taking the time to enjoy the scenery makes a great day in Krabi. Sunset on Ton Sai beach - it's hard to describe the atmosphere on Ton Sai beach at sunset. On the one hand, there's the noise from all the climbers dangling from various parts of the surrounding cliffs, the sound of the water lapping the shoreline and the hum of the long tail boats that cross the bay. On the other hand, there's an overriding sense of calm that makes sitting on the beach or at one of the bars, watching the sun set over the ocean, seem like the most relaxing thing in the world. I love that real sense of holiday bliss.

LORD OF THE FLIES

by travelagent4thailand

If many of you may recall the well read book and movie 'LORD OF THE FLIES'....the story depicts humanity situated in its own natural state - the state to survive and rule its own territory....as also depcited in CAST AWAY film.

This is TRUELY off the beaten track.

You can experience that 'being' here around KRABI islands -- pack you bags and live in the wilderness in solitude.

There are many islands.....go ponder.

Ocean view

by kyoub about Orchidea & Ocean Cliff

We ate most all of our meals at the hotel.
There were two restaurants
Thai cuisine with a tropical touch at Orchidea Restaurant, with warm breezes in an open-air dining experience.
The Ocean Cliff was usually open for the breakfast breakfast and lunch.
The food was good and the service friendly.

Gliding between rocks and caves

by Restless-in-kl

Railay beach tends to make you feel very lazy. So if you have some energy, go for a sea canoe trip to explore mangrove, caves etc. It's a full day affair where everything is taken care off including lunch.

Massage

by touraco

You can find massages along the beach. I personally like one that belongs to a hotel (I can't remember the hotel's name). It's sheltered and you can do your massages facing the sea, with the wind blowing and waves crashing on the beach. Superb.

Whole body massage only costs you 200bahts and you get a pineapple and banana thereafter.
