Local Fishing
by M0B1US
Although jobs from tourism have started reach this area, many of the local people still fish for their food in more or less the traditional way, although nowadays the boats are powered by a few hundred horsepower of monster engine!
Whilst we were on our many journeys around the waterways and mangrove swamps we saw a lot of fishermen in their boats or wading in the shallows checking their nets.
A number of fishermen employ their excellent knowledge of the mangrove swamps to offer private tours for small groups.
Krabi town at night
by flying_dolphin7
We had a very kind, friendly and helpful tourguide in Krabi. He's Thai and he willing to show us around at Krabi town for free. He drove us to the Krabi town which takes 20minutes away by car from our resort. It's just a small down indeed and we do shopping and we went to the local night market having our dinner. We ate the Pak-thai, it's really good price costing TBT 25 and delicious food. After this he brought us to the a place to have some drinks who you can enjoy the live mini concert. We really appreciate that he do such a favour to us.
An ok restaurant
by clouds111 about Tanta's
Tanta's is a large restaurant on the main stretch. It has a good mix of dishes so will cater for varying tastebuds, although the menu is probably too long. The fresh fish here was quite tastey especially if asked for Thai style. The BBQ or grilled dishes were ok but were smothered in some sickly sweet BBQ sauce.
On the plus side the service was really good and relatively cheap, with a nice chilled out atmosphere. Chili fish
4 islands tour with Barracuda Tours
by j-san
This tour is available from all Ao Nang agents and hotels. We did the one from Barracuda tours. It cost just 300Baht for the whole day, water, half a pinneaple each (yummy!) and lunch (not so yummy).
Feeding the Fishes....
by DarkRay
If you happen to be going out to the sea, do bring along some bread to feed the fishes. It is surprisingly how a simple activitity like this can be so enjoyable.
You do not have to worry about polluting the environment if you are just using plain bread because there are enough fish to eat any amount you can feed up....
During the 2 days I was out at sea, my friend, Woon, and I actually used up 2 really large loaves of bread. You can also share the bread with the other visitors and share the fun. :-)
