If it moves - eat it!
by M0B1US
OK, they're not moving anymore - but they used to!
Invariably when you travel any long distances you come across completely foreign foods that your own society just would not contemplate eating, or just the completely exotic...
Things like all the amazing fruits of SE Asia like the rambutan, longustine, longan, lychee, durian (actually, not the durian!), you're only too happy to sample their delicious flavours - but bugs and insects!!???
We just don't eat them in western society, no matter how nutritious they are, you are programmed to be disgusted by them...
I will give it a go one day, but my excuse is that I was too busy trying out all the new fruits etc... ;-)
Can anyone tell me what crickets actually taste like? :-)
Cold beer "on the beach"
by Gard about Planet Ao Nang
Ao Nang was pretty quiet in my opinion and we didn't find much nightlife. But we did end up at the bar Planet Ao Nang a couple of times and we had cold beer in the warm sea breeze. We enjoyed Heiniken, Chang and Singha beer and it was pretty cheap :-) They played pretty good music while we were there and it was not too crowded. The bar is on the boardwalk at the Ao Nang beach. I don't think that there was a dress code at this place.
More tasty Thai
by Jez79 about Andaman Nature Resort
The Andaman Nature Resort has a busy restaurant which serves a variety of foods. In addition to local Thai dishes, you can get western meals (especially breakfast), and even some Italian. You can also choose seafood from a display table, then decide how you'd like it cooked. The food is good but a bit more expensive then Banyan Tree (though still cheap by Western standards). The restaurant has a great atmosphere and it's a great place to get chatting to other travellers. Pad Pak Na Man Hoy - vegetables with oyster sauce. Very tasty.
Climb and dive
by PETEvdLAAN
Both are very good in that area, the sheer rocks comming out of the water really give you a buzz to climb. Diving the same, there's a cool shipwreck in that area and if you want to spot a good old friendly nurse-shark, go dive at sharkpoint.
Night Markets
by sacrebleu
Night life is not very exciting in Krabi honestly. The night markets open from 5pm and closed around 9ish. I wasn't impressed at all but at least it's something I've been there and done with. The first thing I noticed was these stalls in the market are mainly run by Muslims. Actually most of the population are Muslims.
Food I like from the market is the savory omelettes and the Thai desserts.
