Krabi Resort
by Cathy&Gary
After driving around Ao Nang beach for awhile we decided to stay the night at Krabi Resort.
Originally we wanted to stay in their bungalows but were told they were all booked. That was not true it just looked like most of them had been closed up for low season.
Never mind, we will have a splurge and check into their Luxury Villa at a cost of 5260 Baht as it had a Jacuzzi! High season price for this Villa is 8830 Baht!
The Villa was very nice but I do not think it was worth the price we paid.
The Jacuzzi was nothing more than a sunken bath, though it was a beautiful bathroom.
We had to have maintenance come over as the plug release in the bath was broken, this took about an hour and 3 phone calls before someone came to look.
The diagnosis was "Yes it is not working" and the remedy was to give us a knife to dig the plug out!
There were other small issues like lights not working and a couple of the blinds were broken which you can see from the photos.
Krabi Resort is situated on 18 acres of land at 232 Moo 2 Tambol Ao-Nang.
There is a 2 Bedroom Beach House, 12 luxury Villas, 45 deluxe bungalows,
10 garden-view standard rooms, 36 deluxe hotel rooms and 4 suites.

We have driven to Krabi from Phuket many times over the last few years and its a lovely drive of about 180 kilometers.
It normally takes us quite a few hours as we stop off at various places along the way. The roads are good and well signposted.
Phang Nga town is in a valley among huge rocky limestone mountains covered with greenery and the entrance to town is very pretty with parks and gardens.
Its not a huge town there’s fresh food markets, lots of little restaurants, Buddhist monasteries, a market selling clothes etc plus all the normal little shop houses you would see in any town.
There are also many caves and waterfalls around Phang Nga and the area is still primarily rubber plantations and forests.
From Phang Nga town we decided to go back a bit to the turnoff to Phang Nga Pier, soon we are driving past mangroves, then someone runs out onto the road and stops us, my god, he is trying to sell us a tour to James Bond Island (rock) a few meters down the road and another one runs out and stops us, same thing.
After traveling about 50 meters and being stopped (or we would have run them over) about 5 times the same tour has gone down to 400baht for the both of us!!
Gary has had enough, he has that look in his eyes that says Road Kill coming up, so we turn around and head back to the main road. I’m sure if we had kept going to the end of the road to the pier we could have gone to James Bond Island (rock) nearly for free with a set of steak knives thrown in.
Off we go again, we are on the Krabi road, it’s a great scenic drive through lots of little villages, and there are lots of stalls set up on the road selling food.
One little village called Ban Klang had numerous stalls near the road cooking chickens on a rotisserie and each stall had a cord with a light bulb, some of the lights were on, we figured this was to let passing traffic know that the chickens were cooked and ready to buy.
Eventually we end up in Krabi town, it’s pretty big but we didn’t see anything worth stopping for so we kept going. We are now heading for Trang (remember we don’t have a map with us).
After a little detour off the main road we end up down a little track where we came across a small Muslim village, lots of kids on motorbikes, a huge food market and that was it.
A dead end road.
Back we go and Gary decides to head back to the beaches of Krabi so we can check into a hotel as its now after 3pm and we have been on the road since 9am. We checked into the Krabi Resort and I have a separate report on this under Hotels.
The beaches around Krabi are so pretty and quiet, no crowds, no jet skis, parasails or sun lounges on the beaches, no tailors or tuk tuks annoying you - heaven.
I do not have much info on shopping or nightlife on these pages. Everything is available here, same as Phuket but on a much smaller scale.
Massages were cheap here, 200baht per hour, food and drinks were also good prices.
It’s a great place for families (in the low season).
Its fantastic driving yourself to different places, each trip we average just over 3000 kilometers.
We have never had any problems along the way and would have to say that the best thing we have ever done is hire that 4x4!

Recommend a good resort please?
by ikc
Hi everyone, my boyfriend and I have booked a promo flight to Krabi and will be in Aonang the first week of June. Would love a comfy stay, (want to do sports in the day and really be pampered and relaxed at nt) so aircon, nice room is a must. Anyone been to Aonang please recommend a nice place? How's Golden Beach or Aonang Villa which are on the beach front? I heard Pavilion Queen's good but where is it in relation to Aonang Beach? It is very pricey? Thanks in advance!

The only hotel on Ao Nang that located by the sea is "Krabi Resort". I've been there and the hotel was great. (Take a look at some of my photos at www.iamjock.com/travel/pp.html ) The price is a bit higher than others but the view over there is really beautiful. (Info of the hotel is here : http://www.hotelthailand.com/krabi/krabiresort/index.html )
PS. If you still have time. Try to visit KO LANTA, it's an island near Krabi. With very beautiful beaches.
Enjoy your trip!
