More about LaLaanta Hideaway Resort
come as guests, leave as friends
We had heard about the place from people who had stayed there and from people who had just seen Lalaanta. So with just a name and a telephone number we booked and hoped it to be close to what people had told us.
We have travelled about all over the world and stayed in innumerable places - We have never felt so special anywhere as we did on Lalaanta.
The staff and owners are extremly friendly and helpfull, and at the same time relaxed and easy going.
The place is something else; they are lucky to have the best beach on Ko Lanta, and they got it alone - it's the only one directly on the beach. Most days it's just you and maybe a couple of others there. The resort itself is very elegant, where most of the bungalows have seaview, and they have spared the trees so you get some natural shade. The bungalows are very tastefull and are individually decorated.
The food is excellent from breakfast, lunch and dinner, where they put in the little extra. A huge pluss for the seafood barbeque at night.
We have 3 children from 7 years to 5 months, after we arrived they bought water toys for our kids. and during dinner staff would carry and sing for our baby. Our kids loved the place and were loved back.
It's pure luck to strike a place like this - most people live a lifetime and just see them in magazines.
I can't fully praise this place and the people working there. Hope some of you who reads this will experience Lalaanta.
Take a rest, bring a book, lay in the hammock and watch the sunset while you hear the jungle coming alive.
The Perfect Place, here's why:
First of all I suggest you read my review of the SriLanta if u want my opinion of what LaLaanta is exactly the opposite of, as I left the trendy SriLanta to go to LaLaanta after hating the former.
Here's what's great about LaLaanta:
1) The staff - friendly and interested in making your stay comfortable - speak excellent English (as Ive realized something super important in Thailand), and are highly personable - Tony and George (the owners) are great owners and make you feel at home anda re always around to help.
2) The beach - most breathtaking beach I have seen in my life. Amazing sand, clean, isolated, really really nice. Although beaches in Thailand are not private, you can only access this beach through the hotel, so it's basically private. Superb.
3) The food was very good, and considering the fact that this place is kind of isolated, the prices were very reasonable (they could have overcharged and you wouldn't have much of a choice but pay up)
4) The rooms are brand new, as this hotel opened in December 2007. They are also very nicely designed.
5) They drive you around the island to a restaurant/a bar etc...for free - other resorts don't do this.
6) The place has the ultimate "boutique" feeling to it - only has about 20 rooms (basically small cottages).
What to watch out for going forward:
1) Given it's new, this friendliness/service could become eroded with time. But given the quality of the management, I doubt it.
2) If you rent a scooter to go into town, nearly impossible driving out of the resort as the bit between the paved road and the hotel (at the end of a dirt road) itself is very very dangerous.
Touched in La Laanta
We were so happy to know that Patrick is Chinese at the time of arrival at La Laanta, a wonderful place we found by accident ! We were much happier to know that we were the very first Chinese to stay there! Patrick received us more like friends than guests and it felt great to talk in Chinese with a very nice person in Thailand, especially for Tong as he speaks a little English. We had a wonful conversation with Patrick and Tong got drunk a bit over the happiness. We were deeply moved by Patrick's charity works in Myanmar, where he has provided and keeps providing financial support to many orphants in their education. Patrick was very thoughtful and made very good arrangement for us. When he knew that we would take the trip to Koh Rok the next day, he offered us a free later check-out. We knew it was not appropriate for us to take the offer as it was in peak season, thus we declined. But Patrick said that we would be tired after the trip and need a place to take shower and have a good rest before beginning our long drive to Bangkok. He insisted on giving his kind offer and we finally took with great thankfulness.
La Laanta is great, not only for its kind owners, Patrick and Tony, but also for its scenical beauty, wonderful food and chic interior decoration. We love our sand castle so much that we take more pictures of it than of the sea. Sunset, which we can see right from our private balcony, is romantic at La Laanta and it is as wonderful as the sunset at Oia in Santorini, where we had been in 2006 and is known as the most beautiful sunset in the world.
We definitely will visit Thailand again, and we do it only for La Laanta. We are saving money now in a hope that we could take our parents there with us in the near future. Ia Laanta brings us the best travelling experience in Thailand.
La Laanta, we will be back!
The best on Koh Lanta!
As my friend and me (2 girls aged abt 30) saw many resorts in Koh Lanta, because we were looking for something with style and good atmosphere, we can both highly recommend the resort. We loved the bungalow, the original thai style food, the beautiful beach and of course the super nice staff! As we travelled without our boyfriends it was a bit boring in the beginning with all those couples around. But in the end we met so many nice people among them, so we had lots of fun. I hope this place will never get spoiled by too many other resorts. Now, there are only 3 on this amazing and huge beach, which is very good. I hope it will stay like this. Patrick and Tony: Thank you all for making us feel at home! Hope to see you soon!
Enjoyed the warm-hearted atmosphere
When we arrived at La Laanta, we knew immediately that we had chosen the right location for our holiday. We were welcomed more like friends not like guests, especially by Patrick, one of the owners of La Laanta. We had booked a sunset splendour villa which was awesome! The interior design of the bungalow matched the natural surroundings perfectly. It had a dark wooden floor, a nice bathroom with a rainshower, a queen-size bed with a fluffy duvet and a terrace with a nice view to the sea. Within the resort they also used a lot of natural materials and since the hotel only consisted of 20 bungalows, it was really cosy and relaxing. But what made this stay unforgettable was the helpfulness and kindness of all staff members, especially to mention Patrick, Trung, Kong and Tony who even became close friends. Patrick took great care of us the whole time, he organized a gorgeous snorkeling trip to Koh Rok and another trip to a cave and a waterfall in the middle of the jungle. We also spent a lot of time with him at the bar talking and laughing. One night he even organized a campfire for all guests on the beach under the stars....Fantastic!!! During the day we enjoyed the beautiful sandy beach and the sea where swimming was possible during high and low tide. We even had really nice waves almost every day. All in all, I can honestly say that this has been my best holiday ever and that I will certainly come back to La Laanta soon!
Fantastic honeymoon experience!
I'm not surprised to see the overwhelming positive responses for LaLanta Hideaway resort. We were there in February for the final part of our honeymoon in February. It was the best experience we had on the entire trip. Patrick and Tony (the owners) are amazing - welcoming, fun, and go above and beyond to make their guests stay nice and comfortable.
We found LaLanta after booking and paying for another hotel on Long Beach. Upon arrival, it was obvious the hotel wasn't for us, so we picked up a local map and saw a small advertisement for LaLanta, checked out the website, booked the room in an instant.
The rooms are spacious and very nicely decorated. We loved the pool and lighting in the outdoor restaurant and patio. The nice comfortable beach chairs and umbrellas. The food was delicious - we ate there every night as there wasn't much of a reason to go anywhere else.
With only three places on the beach and no neighboring hotels/restaurants, LaLanta feels like an unspoiled paradise. You can't go wrong staying here.

A wonderful place on a privat beach....
The LaLaanta was the best resort I ever see and I and my sister enjoy the days we stay so much!
It is a little paradise and everything food, rooms pool and the service is made with love and high quality...
This is our second visit to LaLaanta in six months and it continues to be a fantastic, guest-friendly, relaxed resort, particularly for the road-weary. Patrick, Tony, June, and Apple know what a hideway resort should be and how to make guests feel at home but cared for. The cottages are comfortable, the scenery is beautiful, and the sunsets are some of the best we've seen. For relaxation, rejuvination, and re-plenishment of the soul, this is the place.
This accomodation situated right at the end of Koh Lanta, is a fantastic secluded getaway. The facilities are top notch, with a fantastic infintiy pool overlooking the ocean.
I initially thought that staying so far from Koh Lanta town would prove an issue when it came to meal time. But the food produced by the chefs at LaLaanta were some of the best meals we had in Thailand! Great quality and reasonably priced.
With the new roads scheduled to be built in 2009, this place will be a lot easier to access, and will become a favourite of many tourists to Koh Lanta.
The rooms are extremely comfortable and the managers are kind, and always there to help and assist is anyway possible. I would thoroughly recommend any couples who are looking for a memorable getaway to stay at Lalaanta in Koh Lanta
I thought long and hard about whether to write this review or not.
On the one hand I don't want to tell anyone about how fantatsic La Laanta is because now that I have found this wonderful secret hideaway, I want to keep it all to myself. But, on the other hand I feel I owe it to everyone at La Laanta to ensure they succeed with their incredible resort.
We arrived here stressed and dissapointed by our time on Koh Samui. The moment we set foot in La Laanta, June (one of the owners) simply said forget about Samui, you are at La Laanta now and everything is wonderful. She was so warm and welcoming we did exactly that and before we knew it we were enjoying the incredible food and gazing out at the beautiful secluded beach.
The bungalows are wonderfully simple and stylish and most have a view of the ocean. they have a DVD and book library, Internet PC and they even have wifi!
We were blessed with 8 days of fabulous weather during our stay which made our time even more exquisite. The staff at La Laanta are very accommodating and very friendly without being intrusive in anyway.
One day we asked if we could have a fire on the beach the following night and June and Tony (one of the owners) said without hesitation "that's sounds great why don't we have a BBQ on the beach as well". It was incredible. All the staff came down and cooked for us and then we all sat around and talked and ate and drank and watched the fire and listened to the ocean for hours. The staff stayed too and it was great to share the experience with everyone.
Everyday we were there we thought to ourselves... I guess we should hire a bike today and go and explore the island... or maybe we should go out to dinner somewhere different... but to be honest with you we just loved the place so much and the food was so great and the beach so secluded and private and perfect that we simply had no reason to leave. So we didn't. If we had wanted to however, the staff would have taken us wherever we wanted to go on Koh Laanta.
For 8 days we completely relaxed and recharged our batteries and thought of nothing but what to have for lunch or what pool to swim in or how many walks on the beach should we have today.
This place really does have that desert island feel about it. It's literally built right on the beach and there are hammocks swinging amongst the trees on the sand and two gorgeous pools looking out to the ocean. On our last night June who is from Vietnam cooked us a Vietnamese feast. We could easily have stayed a month.
Do yourself a huge favour and don't walk but run to this wonderful place.
Thankyou to all the staff at LaLaanta, in our 5 months travelling South East Asia this was the best!
We will definitely be back again and again and again.
