Transfer from Krabi to Koh Lanta in May 2009

by broniqld

Hi all, we are planning a trip in May 2009 and are planning on staying in Krabi for a bit and then going to Koh Lanta. I heard that the ferry is not running at that time and wondered what other options are there to get to Koh Lanta. We were quoted 3,000 baht to get to the resort is this reasonable (that is for four people) and how long does it take to drive there? any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There is a boat from Krabi at 10.30 am, minibus is cheaper probably faster.

Last december (high season) the cheapest bungalow (on longbeach, dont remember the name) for 2 was 400 baht

I agreee with Lotharscheer, Much cheaper and probably a lot faster to take a bus or mini bus, may even be a lot more comfortable considering the time of year that you are planning on going. May can be a bit rough on the ocean with the monsoon rains coming in. You wouldn't even need one of the delux buses, shouldn't take you more than 2 hours at the most to get there and shouldn't cost you more than 100B each for the trip. Ride with the locals, it can be a fun experience! The people will be friendly and helpful.
Have fun!

Travel Tips for Krabi

Culinery art

I love the decorative food that is served on your plate or on a buffet.
A tomato that is carved to look like a bird,
butterflies made out of veggies.
I especially admired this watermelon that was made to look like a flower.

STARGAZING AT NIGHT

by Adeline_Foo

Look up to the sky at night no matter where you are in Krabi and you can see lots of stars staring back at you! On our last night there, we just sit & lie on the beach for hours looking at the stars! It was a night we will never forget because we never have the chance to see such dense stars at night in Singapore

Delicious Roadside food

by wynlim about Roadside stalls

If you're not a hygiene freak, do try the yummy roadside stalls. There's barbequed chicken, sausages, grilled cuttlefish, papaya salad, mango salad...the list goes on.... The chicken's pretty good...

KRABI'S GRAND CANYONS

by travelagent4thailand

The whole world knows the GRAND CANYONS of ARIZONA.

Welcome to thailand's grand canyons. The canyons here are not golden colored or as large and huge as the ones in the US....(the one i went to was about 1kms long, your arms begin to sore after 20 mins of paddling off the shores to the canyons...trust me...it's long enough!)

But it's a whole different maze in itself...monkey and exotic birds, wild lizards (some as large as crocodiles) live in amongst these walls.

Pathway to private beach

by clouds111

At the southern end of the Ao Nang beach where the monkeys hang out at sunset there is a rickety walkway over the limestone khast which takes you to a more secluded beach (which can only be reached by boat). This beach is home to an exclusive hotel and when you get the the other side you even have to sign in with the security guard, so they know who's there!

The wooden pathway leads up through the trees, this can be quite daunting in places as the steps are steep and often wobbly but don't let this put you off, there is a handrail too which is some comfort. The beach itself is nice and surrounded by the limestone khasts. The beach was empty when we got there late afternoon. But the most worthwhile thing about it is the occasional view through the trees on the trek over there. Small natural windows that look over the private beach and emerald sea.

About 15 minute walk and can be tiring, especially in the heat.
