Koh Lanta Accomodation

by Elgreco77

Can anyone recommend somewhere mid range that's clean. Everything I've found is either too expensive or has bad reviews.
Thanks

I split my time on Koh Lanta between the Lanta Miami Bungalows and the Waterfall Bay Resort. Both were clean and inexpensive. The food was excellent at both.

Lanta Marine Park Resort. It is in Kantiang Bay on Lanta (all the way to the south) The rooms are one of a kind and the beach was shared with a 5-star resort that had paid to have the rocks removed from the beach area (this is a problem in Koh Lanta) The room was beachfront (on a cliff) and was 500 a night. But that will probably change at the end of October, when most hotels believe is the start of the high season.

Finally got somewhere to stay with good reviews. Does anyone know of any speed boats that run from Phuket to Lanta? I don't mind paying a bit extra to get there. We arrive in Phuket aound 13.30.
Thanks

Travel Tips for Krabi

World class climbing

by gib157

Although I didnt do any myself I met quite a few people who were in the Railey area rock climbing. Aparently it is well known among rock climbers and I can see why. Sheer rock cliffs amongst stunning natural scenery. I cant think of a nicer place, the views must be amazing. There a re a few climbing shops so its very easy to get started.

Rent a car

by Gard

We decided to rent a car one day and we just asked the in reception. After a couple of hours Budget brought a nice Honda Civic to us from the airport for 2000 baht for a day.

Driving around Krabi was not to bad even if they drive on the “wrong” side of the road compared to what I'm used too. I guess the main point is to try to drive like the locals. At one point we were going to slow and the cars behind us very eager to get past us

Banana Leaf Restaurant

by Cathy&Gary about Banana Leaf Restaurant

The Banana Leaf Restaurant & Cocktail Bar is on the Aonang beach road opposite the Sunset Hotel.

The menu is extensive and includes Thai, steaks and seafood. They also have a great cocktail bar and the drinks are beautifully presented, prices are very reasonable and the service and staff are excellent.

Banana Leaf is open from 3pm until 1am.

We have eaten here a couple of times, the first time our meals were delicious but the second time when we took family there was a little mix up when we asked for one of the meals to be not very spicy.

They obviously thought we meant all of our meals, so for those of us who like the spicy food it was a little bit bland.

But its a lovely place and we would definitely go back there.

4 Island tour

by Sambawalk

4 island daily tour includes Tup island, Poda Island which has beautiful white sand bech with corals and fish for snorkelling, Chicken Island which has a rock spire that looks like a chicken head, and Pranang Cave which is attched to the main land easily accessible from Railey Bay. The tour drops you off in various places for sun bathing, snorkelling and lunch. Prices from 400 bahts up, depending the boat types, programs, and operators. See more pics of other islands.

Rai Leh East beach

by clouds111

Rai Leh East isn't anywhere near as nice as the west side, the beach is quite narrow, muddy and mangroves dominate the majority of it. There are a few cafes and budget accomodation dotted along the beach front but the main attraction is rock climbing at the southern end of the beach where people are learning the basics.
