Where to go?

by Missteeblu

I'm planning the second leg of my honeymoon in Krabi and possibly ko lanta. Seen as you all helped me so much with the Malaysian part, I wondered if anyone could tell me of a nice bungalow resort that is mid range but in a really beautiful setting. We want to get a romantic retreat without breaking the bank.

I've never been to that side of the island before, always the other side, Koh samui and Koh pha gnan. Any recommendations would be great.

I'm leaving on Wednesday so any help, much appreciated.

Hi -

there's a slightly out-of-the-way "eco-resort" in Krabi province that I stayed at several years ago, but it looks like it's still going. It's called "Dawn of Happiness" and there is a small write-up of it here:

On Koh Lanta the Waterfall Bay Resort is a wonderful spot for a honeymoon. It's very peaceful and quiet there. But the most romantic beachfront hotel I visited was actually next door to Koh Lanta on Koh Ngai (Hai). The Fantasy Resort was incredibly beautiful. The sand was sugary white, the water was crystal-clear and the offshore views of the limestone karsts was spectacular. You can get there from Koh Lanta by hiring a local boat to take you, or if you're coming from Malaysia you can get there from the Pak Meng Pier near Trang in So. Thailand.

There is the Andaman Holiday Resort, which seems rather lovely. I haven't stayed there, but the owner, Khun Pramot and his wife are avid fundraisers for various needs in Krabi, particularly for the tsunami. They are devoted and lovely people who have helped many.

Here is their website; http://www.andamanholiday.com/

Best of luck on your honeymoon!

Travel Tips for Krabi

Cash

by GracesTrips

Make sure to have ample amount of Thai Baht. The resorts let you put everything on your room tab but other establishments (retail stores, bars & restaurants) will only take cash. We ate at one restaurant and was able to use our credit card to pay for the food but they needed us to pay cash for our beers.

Only one way to Railay Bay: Longtail boat

by iNorv9

Railay Bay is a very sheltered and seculded location with no access by road. Thus, the only way to get there is by longtail boat. The trip isn't so bad; takes about 15 minutes from both Ao Namao and Ao Nang. It also provieds a great vantage point for photographing the dramatic limestone cliffs along the coast.

Quick tip: If you're staying at a hotel, always confirm with them what time their last longboat leaves in the evening, as well as the price (should be about 50 baht). Otherwise you may end up paying an arm and a leg to an opportunistic longboat driver looking to make a quick buck off a desperate tourist.

Fish Feeding

by Sambawalk

Fish feeding by the shore is one of the activities for children and young at heart too. The water is so clear and there are may coral fishes. Look the mother is smrokelling to enjoy the underwater views of the fishes whilst her children are getting the fishes excited. See more pics.

Phot taken from Hong island.
