The easiest one to find is the riverfront night fruit and food market that sets up on Th Khongkha. With a picturesque setting on the waterfront, this large string of food stalls caters to every budget, including such delicacies as Thai-style noodles, mussel omelettes, succulent seafood and desserts Thai style.
There is a large seating area behind the stalls and the food quality appears excellent from our experiences. Beware though of the waiters that are so successful in touting for customers that you run the risk of waiting a long time for your food - don't be scared to pay for your drinks and move on if the food is taking a long time to arrive!
As the road turns away from the riverfront, so the market changes into stalls selling the local fruits of the area including the infamous Durian - notorious for its foul smelling odour and being banned from most hotel rooms! It is something of a local delicacy, but frankly I can't think why!? Other local fruits include the succulent but a bit too juicy Langoustines, the Longan that tastes the same as Langoustines and is a 'well packaged' and not juicy alternative, and the red funky furry Rambutans - again, a similar taste but worth buying just for its appearance!
Another, larger, market is near the central Sangthaew station just off the main road past the banks. There is a much larger selection here including a clothing and t-shirt section as well as scores of food stalls. There was a wider selection of food and drinks here as well, including such wonderful delicacies as deep fried crickets...
My favourite scene here was the juice bar where the man behind the fresh juice machine was putting on a fantastic show that would make most cocktail barmen green with envy - I had this feeling he'd swapped the blood in his veins for Red Bull!
Check out the Night Markets - they were vibrant and full of life!
