Krabi during Christmas time first time

by Isabelllla

We are a family of 3(daughter with 15 years old) and plan to visit for the first time Krabi for Christmas holidays. How busy is this place during this period? What is the average price for eateries? Are there many restaurants and what type of culinary? Is seafood expensive during high season? Just for reference, we have been to Phuket,Koh Chang,Pattaya,Hua Hin,Cha Am,Bangkok,Koh Samed,Koh Phi Phi and the last time Koh Samed.
Thanks a lot

Where in Krabi? Krabi is both a province and a town. Many resort areas, such as Ao Nang, Railey Beach, Koh Lanta (and there are many beaches on this island), etc. You have to be more specific in the location of your hotel first.

Travel Tips for Krabi

Honeymoon in Krabi province

by seagypsy

I agree with the above post that the Andaman Coast will pretty much have come to the end of the monsoon season whereas the Gulf islands will be starting up their's.
And besides, the Krabi area offers more natural beauty and far better marine life than Samui.
As to accomodations, you've got the choice of Ao Nang or Railay (and even more exclusive places) with Ao Nang being a touristy zone with many places to eat, shop (touristy shops) whereas Railay is mainly a resort zone with a far better beach (though still not great for snorkeling) but limited and expensive restaurants.
Then you've got the choice for islands of Ko Phi Phi or Ko Lanta of which PP is more famous for it's stunning beauty. If you want privacy, then there are some resorts on the eastside that have their own beach that are more exclusive but you're a short longtail ride into the central busy area at Ton Sai.
Depending upon how much time you've got, I recommend splitting your time between the mainland (Ao Nang or Raileh West) and PP Island.

Tiger Cave Temple

by Elginah

Take a taxi, or drive out to the Tiger Cave Temple. Make sure you pack water, your asthma pump and one of those hand held fans. Then you begin your climb up the 1300 odd stairs to see Buddha's footprint. And remember, the road to enlightenment is not an easy one - as the steep steps to the top indicate.

Seafood in Ao Nang

by AndreSTGT about Sala Thai et.al.

There's an array of romantic beach restaurants at the northern part of Ao Nang's beach promenade. This is a great place to watch the sunset in a wonderful atmosphere. They all offer pretty much the same fare of Thai food with an emphasis on seafood, prices are slightly higher than elsewhere, but still reasonable (around 500B for 2).
While they are very similar in quality, price and ambiance, i would say that the last one called "Sala Thai" had slightly better food than the others.

Rent a Speed Boat

by AshleeS

This is amazing we rented a speed boat for the day. There were ten of us and I think it was like $33 USD each. We went to so many islands. Of course we went to Phi Phi, which was amazing, then they took us snorkling, to chicken island to walk along the sand bar, and to the secluded Bamboo island which we were hesitant on going to because we didn't want anything touristy but there was no one on that island except us.

Wat Tham Seua, the "Tiger Cave Workout"

by iNorv9

Wat Tham Seua, or Tiger Cave Temple, is about 8km northeast of Krabi town. There are various dwellings and prayer halls built right into the limestone walls, and plenty of playful macaques.

The main draw of the Wat Tham Seua grounds is its "Stairway to Heaven": which consists of a whopping total of 1,272 steps leading to the top of a 2,000ft/600 m karst peak. This ascent is definitely not for the faint of heart; many of the steps rise at an extremely steep angle (see pic). Those who make it to the top will be rewarded with a large golden stupa, an imposing Buddah statue, and tremendous views of the lush surrounding terrain.

Those feeling a little less physically motivated can take a short tour into the adjacent valley, which features several monk cave dwellings and massive 1,000-year-old trees.

Bottom-line: My ascent up the Wat Tham Seua stairway, though extremely tiring, was one of my fondest memories of my visit to Krabi. So for those of you who enjoy a physical challenge, DON'T MISS this hike.
