Reliable & safe taxi driver in Krabi
by JBDooks
We spent a few days in Krabi in March 2008 and used the taxi service of "Mr. A" (Mobile No. 085-7913744). We found him to be a very professional, reliable and safe driver. He speaks very decent English too (having worked at a 5-star hotel previously). Would highly recommend him. If you decide to call him, let him know the couple from Singapore who stayed at the Cliff Ao Nang recommended him.
The most delicious tom-yum soup ever!
by TripAdvisor Member tam_tammy
My husband and I stayed in Rayavadee for 3 days then to extend our stay we wetn to the Cliff Ao Nang and stayed for another 3 days. To be honest, when we arrived I was a little disappointed with the room, but I think that was because we stayed in a Jacuzzi Villa in Rayavadee krabi before! The room in the Cliff Ao Nang was quite small compared to normal hotels rooms in Thailand, but the staff were just typicla Thai--ever so helpful and friendly!
We got complimentary drinks one afternoon. And the tom-yum soup was the best ever! Breakfast was great too. Normally when we stayed in hotels in Thailand we either had buffet breakfast or 'a-la-carte' breakfast, but here they served breakfast outside your room. My husband really enjoyed his breakfast!
Are we talking about the same place??

How did this place get up there among Rayavadee, Phi Phi Island Village and Pimalai?? This is by no means a five or even four star resort. I love small boutique resorts and would pay a high rate for a great hidden small hotel, but really, this is not in that category.
The room was very very small, minimally decorated even for a rustic tropical style place. Worst of all the bathroom is outdoor, which is a nice idea, but when it's separated from your next-door neighbor's outdoor bathroom only by a flimsy little partition, you get to hear EVERYTHING they are doing. Let's just say there's no guessing what number anyone is doing here!
This could be forgiven if the place is in a beautiful setting, and the pictures from the website and brochure suggest so. However, apart from the view of the big cliff behind the resort, it is not in a good location, even for Ao Nang. I know Ao Nang is not like Phi Phi where you are surrounded by beautiful water and beaches. In fact, Ao Nang is only good for getting on boats so I was not expecting Cliff Ao Nang to be right on the beach or anything. But this place is REALLY far from the main strip where you would have to go to get on the boat. Cliff Ao Nang is in fact right at the edge of Ao Nang so it is not even walkable to the bay, the shops, or the good restarants in the area. There are lots of small street vendors right outside the place though if that is what you like.
Overall, for the same price I think you can get much nicer rooms in much better locations in Ao Nang. This is not so different from the small bungalows that you get everywhere on Railay beach that go for about 1/5 of the price.
Rustic bungalows in a great location
by TripAdvisor Member lancashire uk
If you are looking for fairly inexpensive accommodation with a fabulous location and great staff, The Cliff Ao Nang is for you.
We were not really sure what to expect as we had found and made the booking on line. We had also just spent a week in a 5 star luxury hotel in Thailand's deep south.
When we arrived at The Cliff, we were greeted with the warmest of welcome by the staff and offered cold drinks and towels.
The rooms are small semi-detached bungalows with open air bathrooms. The rooms are tiny with limited storage space, but they are rustic, comfortable and very charming. They have great air conditioning and were adequate for our needs. The open air bathroom was great. Taking a shower with the local ghekos is something I never thought I would do or woukd like, but it really was fun. There is a power socket, so you can use hairdryers etc. A word of warning is that the bathrooms are 'linked' as the bungalows are semi-detached. This could present 'privacy issues', but we never actually experienced any problems.
There are quite a lot of bungalows on this small site, but the place was never crowded, as most people tended to use it more as a base.
The hotel has a small pool with a handful of sunbeds. The pool area never got busy as most people, including ourselves, tended to go to nearby beaches or hired long-tail boats to go to the islands.
Breakfast was served on a little decked area outside your bungalow, at a time of your choice. The breakfast was excellent with a surprisingly wide choice of food. There is a restaurant, but we never actually ate there. The hotel is in a fabulous location with bars, shops and restaurants on your doorstep. You are really spoilt for choice. There are no loud bars close to the hotel, so the hotel maintains a lovely peaceful atmosphere.
The staff were great and nothing was too much trouble. They were really helpful and friendly. There is a security guard on duty at night (although I'm sure we were safe enough) and he would stop a tuk tuk for us if we didn't want to walk or were going to a restaurant a bit further out.
The hotel has one special 'villa room' which we stayed in for 2 nights. It was more expensive than the bungalows, but it was lovely to stay in for our last two nights. It is really spacious with a big indoor bathroom. It also has a little pond all the way round it which is filled with Koy Karp. It was lovely.
This hotel has a great location, in what is a reasonably busy resort. You have the choice of beaches, bars and restaurants within walking distance or you can take a tuk tuk to some of the less crowded beaches and fabulous 'local' thai seafood restaurants.
We really enjoyed our stay at The Cliff and would definately consider staying there again.
Superb Boutique Experience
by TripAdvisor Member hi50phd
In brief: Beautiful facilities, great rooms and gardens. Wonderful, caring, "make-it-happen" office staff. Superb food prepared by a Michelin-grade Chef and crew. Minute attention to detail in the interest of guest comfort and quality of stay.
Enjoyed a wonderful New Year's supper there: a huge platter of excellent crab, mussels, shrimp, bass.
Had a special dish prepared on 24-hours notice: steamed abalone in a delicate, enhancing sauce.
Not enough superlatives to describe our experience.
so pretty

we stayed here for 7 days and it was lovely. Beautiful setting , fantastic staff and lovely food.
Breakfast outside your room is great , lovely to fall out of bed to a great breakfast. the walk down to the beach is not a problem , lets you see the shops and enjoy some nice restaurants and bars on the way.Only one little complaint - the rooms are very small which is fine if you are only there for a couple of days but felt very cramped for a week. However would definitely recommend the cliff
Service was enough to go back

My stay at the Cliff was absolutely fantastic. The staff were the friendliest Thai people we had met over the two weeks we were in Thailand. Their attention to detail were unbeatable and they seemed to want to help you in any way possible. When leaving for a day trip, they will offer you picnic rugs, towels, water bottles and whatever else you need. We spend New Year's Eve there and their special dinner was absolutely delicious. We ordered the seafood basket which was loaded with crab, fish, prawns, etc. and cost only a fraction of what we would pay in Australia. The bathroom in the room is outside which might surprise a few people but it is actually very refreshing and invigorating. We loved it. Breakfast is served outside your room and is delivered at whatever time you specify. I would definitely return to the Cliff and would recommend it to any couple. Note that the rooms will only accommodate two people.

We stayed at Cliff Aonang resort on November 2005. Great service, room is very small though. We had a double room with the outdoor shower, very exotic, just not enough room for our bags and luggage. The staff is very helpful, pleasant and wonderful. is 10-15 minutes walk to the beach.
When we were there in November, the weather wasn't too bad,we had few rains during the day but clear up pretty quick. It's still hot and humid. I think the moonson season start from October -April so you might miss the heavy rainy day.
There's a great Thai restaurant on the main Ao-nang road from Cliff Aonang resort on the left side with a sampan outside the restaurant, great pad thai and beef ball soup, do check it out.

I would consider staying on Railay Beach instead of Ao Nang. West Railay is the nicer beach, Eastern side is all mangroves. Railay is very small so wherever you decide to stay will only be a short walk to wherever you want to go. We recently stayed at the Railay Bay Beach Resort which had an unbelievable pool right on the western beach under the cliffs. If you end up going, on the Eastern side is an awesome bar/restaurant, right down the very very end called The Last Bar - can totally recommend it for dinners as well as the cobra, muay thai boxing show as well.
