Hot Springs and elephant treks

by itsmunya

Hi everyone,
Just wondering, Im not too keen on organised tours, is it possible to rent a motorbike from Ao Nang to make the trip to the hot springs and emerald pool, or would I need to rent a car for that trip?

Also, although its not my cup of tea, my partner wants to do an elephant trek. Does anyone know which is better - the one near Ao Nang or the one on Ko Lanta? i.e better experience, better treatment of elephants, nicer trek etc etc?

Thanks for your help!

Yes, renting a scooter in Ao Nang only costs US$6.00 a day! Cheap! And, we did the elephant trek in Ao Nang and it was fantastic! Beautiful landscape. I have lots of photos and tips on my Krabi page. Not sure where the hot springs are but we stayed in Railay Beach and loved it! Snorkeling, kayaking and just hanging out at the beach was amazing! Enjoy your trip!

es, as Grace said, you can rent a motorbike for a few $$ but it really depends also on how far you wnat to travel, your skill level in traffic to and from. Your destination is NOT just around the corner, I think it is a good distance to travel, easily doable, just keep in mind the distance, and I think there is currently contruction going on in between but it is not bad and traffic does flow decently.

Travel Tips for Krabi

Small Town

by Elginah

There wasn't much to see and do in Krabi - after having spent most days by the poolside. So we took a longtail boat out to the other beaches. Not quite what we expected, but nice beaches nonetheless. Unfortunately the rains kept us from going snorkeling again at Koh Phi Phi Don this time. We took a trip out to James Bond Island and went canoeing. Chasing a gecko out of our bungalow *lol* And chasing butterflies around the hotel.

Hall of the mountain king!

by papajoeb

There are a few really cool hikes you can do from Rayleigh, but this was totally my favorite. This hike is crazy! You start hiking up the side of the hill, soon, the forrest starts to get pretty thick, you crest a hill and start going down the other side. This is where it gets fun, try to imagine a giant building a staircase out of boulders so that the steps are about 15 ft high and 15 ft long. Now imagine that this staircase has be over run by the jungle. This is what you are now descending. Ropes have been tied in strategic places to help you on your way, and some of those rocks are pretty muddy and slippery so it's a good idea to use them even if you don't think you have to.

Anyways, after a while, the stairs level out and you are just walking through jungle. All of a sudden, you push a giant palm leaf out of your way and infront of you is a lagoon in the middle of the mountain with hundred foot cliffs surrounding you on all sides! It's insane! If you go at low tide, the water is only about 2 ft deep in the middle so it's easy to get around and explore the caves at the back. if you go at high tide though, you get to have a little swim!

Yes, don't miss the seafood again

Just walk near the beach or anywhere around dinner time and you'll see all the restaurants showing off their catches. Just pick what you want and that's it. It's cheap and really really good. Be sure to ask for the pepper sauce though. Sometimes the fish is just that, no spices on it. And sometimes that's great, that's what I want to taste but sometimes it could use something extra. Thai pepper sauce (ask if they make their own) is great for everything.
Fresh fish was about 100 baht per 100 grams or 60 baht for snapper ro smaller fish. A whole meal is about 200 baht or less including a drink. Alcohol will add to that. Fish, squid, whatever is fresh really

4 islands

by wynlim

Book this popular tour with one of the many travel agencies around Krabi. Hop-on to four different islands, three actually in reality, Poda island, Chicken island, and Tup island, with Phra-nang Cave part of Krabi mainland. We paid like 350 baht per person during the low season.

Snokerling !!!

by flying_dolphin7

Snokerling is one thing can't miss when you in Beach. I try it all the time when i went to the beach. We went to the Phi Phi Island, Bamboo Island , pass by the Chicken Island... It's takes about 45minuts by Speedboat to Phi Phi island from Krabi. Along the journey you can see many beautiful and natural view.
