Driving to Krabi from Bangkok

by Hanlie

Hi,we are thinking of driving from Bangkok to Krabi. Does anyone know if this is do-able? Thanks.

Re: Driving to Krabi from Bangkok

by cgf

why it should be not?

Re: Driving to Krabi from Bangkok

have you done it or not?

Re: Driving to Krabi from Bangkok

by cgf

I did not but every day buses do
air conditioned bus 614- 944 Baht, ordinary bus 416 Baht
Journey time: 12-14 hours
why it should be not be done by car?
I personally would not mind driving so many hours, it's up to you if it is doable or not.

It is doable because roads connect the places, but the one problem could be the actual vehicle. You could hire one but I do not think that one way rentals are common in Thailand so you would have to return it to your starting point.

it can be done - but you have to know your way especially in bangkok, dealing with the chaotic traffic and signs that are sometimes written only in Thai. My friend did it once with a Thai person, she said she wouldn't be able to get out of the city without the help of a Thai. Signs can be confusing. But once you get out of the city, it is quite straight forward.

It's better to fly to Krabi and rent a car there.

That is what I was asking... Is this do-able by road...? Is the road good, any things to watch out for ect ect ect...?
What I needed was someone to say, yes, I have done this trip, the roads are good, no problem to go by road... Not give me a sarcastic answer..

Re: Driving to Krabi from Bangkok

Thanks, have my own car. Just wanted to know if the roads are good, and if it's easy enough to get there.

Thanks!

imo it could also a motorway with three lanes each way, there are 12 hours driving which would be a limit for many drivers and it's not a irony or sarcasm.

the road is good, and there are many places that you can stop along the way to break your trip. and it's easy once you get out of bangkok. just be careful with the trucks, tractors and buses that use the highway. and also be careful with construction zones as some signs may not be written in English and there may not be enough pylons to guide you...one time my friend and i almost drove into a pile of dirt in the night as the road suddenly ended without warning.

Travel Tips for Krabi

Take it Easy, My Friend

by Aidy_p

Once the aircraft lands on the tarmac of Krabi Airport, it signals the start of your glorious holiday. Especially if you come from a hustling bustling city like Singapore, time seemed to tick away so slowly.

Take it easy. Don't need to rush to take a leak and then plow yourself through the gates to hail a taxi.

Deep in the jungle!

by elefteriafire

Nearby is located the Khao Sok national park, one of the most wonderful places. One can stay there for the night, in a floating bamboo house. One can also stay in a treehouse. It is hard to do hiking in summertime, because of the leeches! But put some tobacco on the wound and it gets better!

Good value

by Sambawalk about Ao nang Cuisine

A localised restaurant with a mix of Thai and western cuisine for reasonale value in Ao Nang Beach. A dish of mix vegetables is 60 baht. The Pha Thai (Thai fried noodels) is from 60 bahts, Chang Beer 50 baht.

Many activities and travel agencies to choose

by Sambawalk

There are many travel agencies along the main road in Ao Nang Beach where you can choose. They have various types of day tours, be it 4 islands, 5 islands, a combination of island and kayaking, elephant trek, or whatever. During the high season from Nov to Feb, all sorts of tours are running daily. I found prices for these tours are quite the same among the agencies, may be with 50 bahts variation in some ocassions. They are all on commission basis and the real operators may also have their own shops along the main road.

When you compare the tour prices, be sure you ask for the type of boat, such as long tail or speed boat and where they go. There could have 3 operators running the same tour with the same or different prices. Contents are different if you find the prices of the same place has a big gap. For example, there are tours to 4 islands from 400 bahts to 1000 bahts. Most travel agencies closed at 10pm for the next morning tour.

Happy shopping.

Visit to Poda Island

by Svitata

Poda Island is a privately owned island by one of the AoNang Resorts. It's free if you want to stay on the beach, but if you intend to step further into the island, there's a charge of 20 baht. It has a beautiful beach and is only about 5-10minutes away from Ao Nang by speed boat.
