Racha Kiri Resort and Spa is on the cliff above Nai Plao Beach at Khanom. We needed somewhere to spend a couple of nights and nearly every hotel in the whole province was booked out due to a huge conference in Surat Thani.
There was a Villa Suite they would make available for us but it was 6500baht a night so I asked could they do it any cheaper, so after a quick call to the manager the price was reduced to 5,500baht a night. Well you only live once so we checked in for 2 nights.
Now for a little bit of history on the resort. On June 9th 2007 this beautiful resort was officially opened by HRH Princess Soamsawali who also stayed the night in their Villa Suite, there are only 4 of these suites and the princess stayed in the one with the best views which was Suite 201.
This Suite is rarely used and only booked if the hotel is full, so normally it stays empty.
Well guess where we are staying, yes we are in the same Villa Suite and it is just amazing and is decorated in King Rama V colonial Thai style. There are 10 acres of lush tropical gardens, beautiful swimming pool and private secluded beaches.
We were also offered the Grand Suite which is their ultimate suite for half price, 5000baht instead of 10,000baht a night, it was magnificent, so big and beautiful but we said no due to the amount of steep steps to get up there, plus the views were not as good as the Villa Suite.
Mini bar prices are also very good for a 5 star hotel, only 60baht for a Singha, Gary is happy and finally we have English speaking channels on the television for the first time in about 8 days. Have to get the pririorites right! There are 2 swimming pools here, we did not get to see the second one, the main one was to good to leave. It definitely is a beautiful resort with only 33 rooms and everything just blends into the countryside so well.
Well our honest opinion on the Racha Kiri Resort & Spa is the rooms are lovely, the grounds beautiful, the pool sensational, the views perfect but it is totally let down by very bad service, a poor restaurant with very average food and lazy staff including the Food & Beverage Manager.
We ordered room service that took nearly 2 hours to arrive, the prices were reasonable but Gary’s meal was very average, my steak was very good but frozen chips and cold vegetables are not good.
We went down to breakfast at 8.30am, oh look there are our dirty glasses and ashtray from yesterday still sitting on the table near the pool. Most of the food trays were empty except for a small amount of lettuce, cucumber, onion and fake plastic grapes and the rubber eggs looked inedible.
There were no glasses left at the juice station, not to worry I will get some from the bar. We ordered freshly cooked bacon and scrambled eggs, Gary’s came out fried, I also had to go back into the restaurant to get the basket of condiments, sauces etc and had to walk past the F & B manager on the way back, he said “ohh sorry”.
I also took a photo of our plates, 40 minutes after we had finished breakfast we were talking to a couple of Australian girls, we were the only 4 people in the restaurant and there were 4 staff and the F&B Manager just standing around laughing and talking, no one came to clear the table and there were flies all over the plates.
I decided to finish off we some fresh fruit, no such luck, only a small plate of pineapple plus a dirty serviette next to it. I took photos of all of this, so take a look, they tell the story better than I can.
Tables near to the pool were not cleared for nearly 2 days, such a shame that this beautiful place has been let down badly by incompetent restaurant staff!

A beautiful, quiet, romantic spot, opposite Koh Samui http://www.rachakiri.com/,
1 km further down the road very nice people at One More Beer http://1morebeer.net/index.html.
Service Racha Kiri could be better because of their English but the smile makes you willing to forgive little misunderstandings.
New managers are working hard to get things better organized.
The food is good.
Unique Quality: One of the most great views of Thailand, the beaches are very clean and natural as it should be, not overcrowded like most populair places these days, very friendly environment.
