Phuket weather

It may rain during the "dry" season, however, when it does during this time it usually only rains for 15-30 minutes and then stops and everyone goes about their business. And a lot of the times it rains at night. March and April are really, normally , dry seasons and very hot. A little rain is usually welcome to cool things off.
You should also not be concerned about a bamboo bungalow leaking, should you find one. Any accomodations you find will not leak. You will be there during the driest time of the year, and as I said before, that doesn't mean it doesn't rain at all.
Just go and enjoy, rain will be the least of your concerns! You'll have fun.

Avoid shopping in Phuket

All I can say is forget it. Stuff that is found in Phuket is more expensive than stuff you find in Bangkok's markets. Serious!
Unless you got lots of aptittude for bargaining and buy loads like 10 items at one go in a local Phuket market, the stuff here is not worth it. In the event that you are reading this and have not made travel plans to Bangkok, locally made clothes like those cute white natural cotton girls dresses are nice.
Anywhere in Phuket but places further away from Patong are cheaper. Even the tourist shops at Laem Promthep are cheaper than Patong. If you bargain hard and buy loads because you got a soccer squad of kids in the family, kids clothes can cost as low as THB90-100 a piece.
Patong's Hotspot
by BorneoGrrl about Bangla Road
Soi Bangla or Bangla Road is probably Phuket's center of entertainment, especially for visitors to this beautiful island. It is relatively quiet during the day but the moment dusk sets in, Soi Bangla becomes alive with people, loud music and shops sellings all sorts of stuff.
The road is lined with many bars with sexy Thai women calling men (mostly foreigners) to come in and buy drinks or more. The Tiger disco is midway through the road with its huge tiger on the top and other open air bars surrounding it. Occasionally, lady boys stroll along and call out to men which is quite an interesting sight.
For me, strolling into Soi Bangla is just to satisfy my curiousity and watch the tourist industry in its full force. After the tsunami of 2004 struck Patong Beach, the area was devastated but quickly picked up and now is back in business Anything goes
Motorbike Hire
by trevndebs
All along the beach road, you can hire motorbikes ranging from mopeds through to 1100cc monsters. Cost about £4 for 24 hours.
Take the crash helmet as the Police will stop you if one of you isn't wearing one and issue an on the spot fine which you have to pay at the nearest Police station immediately. More of an aggrovation than a financial penalty really.
Just accept the ticket, as trying to argue will only make them look harder at you and increase the charge!
