Water activities in May

Hi all, just wondering if May is a good time to snorkle and for boat trips to the islands. I have heard the waters can be too rough that time of year and some of the excursions don't even run then. What is the truth on the matter? thank you so much for taking the time to answer this.

Depends on what type of water activities you are talking about. Similan Islands are officially closed for the season. But if you are doing trips in Phangnga Bay area, it should be fine as it's protected by land to the west. The Andaman side can be rougher depending on the weather, which is much harder to say now as people were complaining about getting a lot of rain just this past December, which is abnormal for that time of year.

Thank you, which islands would typically be okay to travel to in May/early June. the main water activity I would want to do is snorkling if the waters aren't too rough (would be new at it) and a boat ride to some of the islands near Phuket. Do these excursions usually run in May and are they safe that time of year. I understand any weather is possible anytime, but what is typical for then thanks:-)

I'm not sure whether snokelling tours would run in May, as I'm only aware of tours to Similans won't be available. Perhaps there are still snokelling tours going to nearby islands.

In terms of sea conditions, it's definitely better to go to the nearby Phangnga Bay, and there are boat tours to see the scenic bay. You can check with local agents for various tours when you get there.

This tv station is on in most of the hotels in Phuket from what I'm told and has a few of the favourites for the little kiddies like Play School and Bananas in Pajamas etc and also all the AFL and Rugby etc for the big kiddies.

So for all you big kids, at least you will know when to start looking for places that will screen your favourite match, and if worst comes to worst if you are REALLY desperate to watch the game you can hole up in your room with a few of your besties, a coupla coldies and still have a good day :)

Show some respect & dont topless sunbathe

Thailand is a very easygoing country with their ping pong bars & sex trade but please remember that the Thais get offended by public displays of affection & nude and topless sunbathing/swimming.
I noticed a lot of people topless sunbathing on the beaches & at our hotel in Phuket, whilst no one was told not to, its a given rule that u shouldnt practice this behaviou in their country as it offends the Thai people, even though they wont show their offence.
Dont walk around & shop in bikinis or without a tshirt on. mini skirts and shorts are acceptable & you will find that a lot of the bar girls are dressed in similar sexy attire.
On Phi Phi island its a muslim island & its illegal to go topless there
If u are visiting a country i think its polite to not offend them & do some basic reading on what is acceptable or not.

Massage

It is must to have some massage in Phuket. You can choose from normal massage to Thai massage or only foot massage. For a thai massage you have to be brave because it tends to be quite hard if you are not used to massage. They grab you and stretch you in anusual postures.

You can get a massage at the beach or in massage shops but be careful, some massage places are for sexual purposes only so you choose what you are looking for. If you are a woman go for that one that also does nails, the female massage places.

Jungceylon is a 200000 sq meter shopping centre located in rat-u-thit road and it is the biggest one in Patong with more than 200 stores (the two main stores are Carrefour and Robinson) including restaurants, hotel, clothing shoe stores and many more

Patong is Buzzing

If you are looking for nightlife then Patong is the number one choice. Patong has a lot of bars, discos, karaokes massages and a-gogo bars. They are opening new places all the time, during 1999 they improved Soi Sunset and there are lot of new places there.

Although there is a heavy nightlife in Patong, I think it suitable for families with kids anyway because the nightlife is centralised to just a small part of Patong, Bangla Road and Soi Sunset and if you avoid these streets on evenings and nights you will never notice it.
