Travel Tips for Phuket

Money

by MrG27

For some reason travel checks have gotten a bad rap recently, I took most of my funds in Amex travel checks, and found that in Thailand they actually get a better exchange rate than cash, moreover, if I lost the checks I could get them replaced. Cash machines charge quite a bit, I was curious and wanted to know the charges, so I put my debit card into a cash machine, after I found out how much they were going to charge me I attempted to press the cancel button, but the machine proceeded to discharge 1000 baht anyway, for which I was charged a hefty fee! What's more the exchange rates one gets are lower, the exchange rate for travel checks when I was there was about 33-34 baht per dollar, but the cash machine rate was only 30 baht per dollar.

Umbrella's

by cwhit21

I was constantly asked why i was carrying a umbrella around. After Bangkoks downpour i didnt want to get soaked again walking miles back to the hotel. Finally in Patong a girl told me that if you walk around with a umbrella your considered gay... cause your a man and you shouldnt be scared of rain.... well im not scared, just sick of walking around in soggy clothes , well that would explain all the questions.. i dont care im still gonna bring the damn umbrella with me.... and im not gay either hahaha

Elephant Trekking

by dragontml

Elephant trekking is another form of enjoyment for visitors to the island. The wild elephant population of Phuket was wiped out last century but has been replaced in recent years for the tourist trade.

Riding an elephant is an experience not to be missed. These lumbering monsters are incredibly agile for their size and can negotiate slippery slopes that even humans would falter and slip on - and all this while carrying three people on their back.

Shopping

by dragontml

Thai silks and cottons, batiks, silver, pottery, precious and semi-precious stones, dolls, masks, lacquer ware, pewter ware, bamboo artefacts and bronzeware.

T-Shirts, jeans and tailor-made clothes are also good value and can be made in a matter of days. Bargaining is an art long practiced in Asian countries including Thailand. So feel free to ask for a proper discount when shopping in places where prices are not marked.

Banana Disco

by ugurdemiroz about Clubs, bars, go go

Banana disco... I went to Phuket with my 2 friends. We went to Banana disco nearly every night. It was closed at 2 am. We usually go there at 11-12 pm. You must pay 200 Baht for the entry and you get two free drinks.

We always drink tequila there. A tequila is 100 Bacht. Asian girls are very welcomed to european men. I prefer you to go there alone or only with your boy friends;) Because you can make your groups bigger there easily;) But also there is lots of whores. So you must be carefull about it. But other asian girls are very friendly. Tequila and friendly women... what can a man wants in a club more than these?

Good luck;)
