More about Treetops Arasia Resort Phuket

Enjoyed the serenity!

by TripAdvisor Member Xiaomei44

We just got back from our 4 nights stay at Treetops Arasia. We booked a Rachavee suite and we are impressed with the deco and the suite. However, we are dissatisfied with the lack of privacy from our suite. We actually changed to another suite as we felt quite exposed in the first one. We enjoyed great sunset every evening and a private corner of our own suntanning area while enjoying the nice scenery of the sea and the surin beach. We did feedback to the managment regarding this issue and hopefully they will address this issue promptly.
Nevertheless, the hotel is not fully occupied esp. for the Racha suites so privacy is not really a big issue as you wun be finding neighbours next to you all the time. And the plus point about this hotel is the superb view of the surin beach and the surrounding areas. Even the Benjamart and Jamjuree suites look spacious and comfortable and have a good view as the hotel suites are all located up the hill. Their public pool is also kept clean daily and quite empty during the day so it's nice to lie there in the afternoon if you are not going out . One more thing, the place is away from the bustle of Patong and the Surin beach is beautiful and not as crowded like Patong Beach.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Treetops and would love to go back if they do something about the Racha suites. But if you are looking for some place nice, quiet to chill out. This is the place..

Not for honeymooners...

by A TripAdvisor Member

Husband and I spent 10 nights in Phuket for our honeymoon in July, of which 4 nights were spent in Treetops. We had originally booked the Jamjuree suite and were upgraded to the Rachavadee Pool Suite upon arrival at no extra charge, perhaps due to the fact that it is low season and the resort is not full.

Our suite is lovely, spacious and well appointed with the infinity pool separating the bedroom and living areas. We spent most of our time lounging on the deck, sipping champagne and enjoying the magnificent views of the coastline from the edge of our infinity pool. My main complaint about our suite (848) is the lack of privacy. Imagine the vicinity is split into two halves on a hill – Treetops’ suites and bedrooms occupy the bottom half of the hill, whilst private residences flank the top half. At the location of our suite 848, the private residences overlook into our pool suite without any difficulty or much obstruction (basic theory - if we can see them, they can see us), which isn’t ideal as we are on our honeymoon.

Other rants and raves:
Service in general, is efficient, attentive but not intrusive. Staff is friendly, always smiling, and always happy to help. Their in-house spa is great value for money, but only because the massage techniques and service are below average compared to the other spas we have been to.

Surin beach is a short walk away, but as other reviewers have said, it is not great and we preferred to spend our time in our pool suite instead. There is a lovely art gallery selling antiquities down the road from Treetops which we visited several times after breakfast. We ended up purchasing a lovely bronze Burmese bell. Mind you, the walk to Surin beach and gallery is rather treacherous. There are no pavements, so you are walking on the grass patch by the side of the dual carriage way with cars/trucks/buses/coaches/bikes zipping past inches away from your body. Be prepared to get a bit muddy if the road is wet.

We didn’t venture into the main pool at all as it didn’t look very appealing with the power lines at eye level (see attached picture) and it is also near the main road (noisy). We sat by the poolside bar twice during happy hour (cheap cocktails by the way) and could hear the distinct buzzing of the power lines and trucks roaring past. Not very pleasant.

Breakfast is not very imaginative but satisfactory. We were bored of it after the third day. Room service is average. We are firm believers that when in a foreign country, eat the local food, which meant we ate mostly Thai. We tried the in-house Mom Tri’s Boathouse couple of times and the Thai food is great but pricey for what it is. Highly recommend a thai place called Silk, down the road.

More private residences are currently being built further up the hill and we have seen several dump trucks go up and down the steep hill. When it is wet, these trucks do struggle so imagine the noise.

Would we go back? I’m not sure. My husband and I live and work in busy major cities and we like privacy and tranquility on our beach breaks. As such this resort didn't quite do it for us. That said, I must add that we did have a nice stay and are grateful to be upgraded. But if it weren’t for the upgrade……

Great Weekend Away

by TripAdvisor Member gregcmorley

We recently spent a long weekend at the Tree Tops resort in Surin Beach, Phuket. The rooms were clean, spacious and well maintained. The service in the hotel was excellent. The gym was adequate and the spa was very nice. The location of the resort could be a bit better but if you are coming to the resort, request a room higher on the hill and the road noise will not be a factor at all. The resort is across the street from the beach and may be accessed on foot or by buggy from the hotel. The hotel also provides free buggy service to other hotels and restaurants in the immediate area. I recommend this hotel.

So lovely that you wouldn't want to leave the resort

by TripAdvisor Member ncleong

Beautiful and romantic place!

We were first welcomed by this lady staff (nickname: Cha Cha) who carries such a wide and lovely smile. In fact, we were greeted with beautiful smiles throughout our 4 night stay there. The friendliness of the staff was really a key highlight that guests can look forward to.

When we were first led to our room, the vista was awesome. It completely made us forget the fact that this country just experienced the 18th coup (since world war II) only 2 nights ago.

It sits on a hillside with an unblocked view of the land and sea in front of it. It is about 10 min stroll away from the Surin beach (not the most beautiful one that I have seen but still acceptable). Midway to the beach, you will come across the police station where the tuk tuk await their next customers. Further down the road, there is a 7-11 convenience store.

The room is big with a living area, terrace area (with garden, 2 sundeck chairs and a outdoor jacuzzi), bedroom next to a water fountain (the therapeutic sound of water) and a big bath room with a colossal bathtub.

There is a big sofa chair in the living room where you could do your meditation or yoga while facing the Andaman sea.

There is a road next to the resort which means that you may get some noise disruption from the traffic though I personally do not see this as a problem especially if you close the glass doors.

My wife and I also had a good message at the spa. We love the swimming pool as it was not too crowded. They have these cold towels at the restaurant which you can put over your face and take in the cool lemongrass scent.

This is certainly a place for couples who wish to have a romantic retreat where kids are not to be seen.

Will certainly go back again!

It is well decorated in each suite . u will enjoy the great sunshine in your balcony. it will be the best choice if u didn ot want to go out so often and not want to see too many guests during your stay.It is only 48rooms there and the receptionists will know who you are in each suite. We made good friends with receptionists. they're all friendly.Of course, privacy and traffice noise will be a concern if u did not inform the hotel in advance.

In general, it is very good hotel and well -security system. It is not a hotel but a small high -level resident area. it's not suitable for families which have children.High recommand for couples!!

A total disappointment

by TripAdvisor Member Resibär

Definitely does not live up to the expectations of a 5 star hotel.

Rooms: though they are tastefully decorated and even the cheapest room is a spacious suite, there is absolutely no privacy. The bathroom has windows all around and is merely seperated from the bedroom by a glass door (if it infact has a working door at all; ours did not). Meaning you can't even sit in the bathtub undisturbed, and can't escape from your roommate for a moment of privacy. The view and noise of the road did not add to our relaxation either.

Spa: wonderfully decorated. The masseurs have very limited english skills which caused some communication difficulties as to what we wanted done. If you told them to go easy on your back, they pressed even harder. To give them the benefit of the doubt, we met few people on our holiday in Thailand who actually understood us. Overall a good experience with the hotel spa.

Pool/Beach: Awful. The description of Surin beach as THE luxury beach in Phuket, which we read in several tourist guides, is preposterous. I have never been at a more hideous beach: overcrowded, foul smelling and with the most ridiculous water sport safety regulations I have seen in my life (the paraglyders practically landing on your beach towel; the Jet Ski driving at full speed through the crowd of swimmers). Furthermore, the pool at treetops is incredibly small even for a hotel of this size, and directly by the street (loud and ugly).

Food: Horrible. Our first dinner at the hotel was also our last. The Chef at Treetops is only aware of a few ingredients, primarily garlic and ginger. Our lunch consisted of club sandwiches throughout our entire stay. We ate out every night: recommend the restaurants Baan Rim Pa, Joe's Downstairs and Silk. Baan Rim Pa and Joe's Downstairs are beautifully located by the water near Patong; Silk is just 2 minutes away from the hotel. Recommend to stay as far away from Patong or Kata beach as possible, unless you are looking for that El Arenal type of entertainment, and have travelled all the way to Thailand to see Thai girls in dirndls at the Bavartian Oktoberfest Tent or a Thai Elvis interpretation.

Service: Though the staff was friendly, they were quite incompetent. Calling us a taxi was quite a challenge, and we arrived an hour late to our dinner reservation. From then on we got the number of a taxi company and took care of it ourselves. At check out, the receptionist's various attempts to calculate our final check ranged from 200,000 to 10,000 baht before giving us a more or less correct sum. The starting lunch which we had been told would be free of charge to compensate for the fact that our rooms were not ready upon arrival, we were charged for after all.

We would definitely not return to Treetops, and probably not return to Phuket at all, as the mass tourism there did not fulfill our expectations of the "paradise" we had imagined Thailand to be.

Nice but there's better for less money

by TripAdvisor Member Pigandeel

Stayed here for 3 nights - staff is very nice and helpful. We stayed in the Rach. Suite with private pool. They are very nice, beautiful views, but slightly akward in set up. Privacy is lacking, we felt on display in the first suite. We didn't ask to be moved, but the staff offered us another suite with a better sunset view. We took them up on the offer, it was nice, but still not very private. Construction was going on behind us (the staff did warn us). Food was okay.

Generally, it's a nice place, but perhaps a little expansive for what you get. We stayed at Phuket Pavillions up the road for 2 nights at less cost and it was a bigger space, bigger pool and complete privacy. But it wasn't close to the beach and the view was not as good.

They do have there own chairs on the beach which is nice.

Loved every minute

by TripAdvisor Member Meg&James

A beautiful hotel in a lovely location, on arrival we were meet with welcoming smiles, a cold fruit punch which was just delicious and a refreshing cool towel scented with aromatherapy oil.

The staff were the highlight, always smiling we fell in love with the locals, and spent many a night dining by the ocean.

Whilst the cocktails were a little more expensive then other bars in Phuket, we found the food and drinks very tasty. The buffet breakfast was amazing and we managed to gain a few kilograms during our stay.

We stayed in the Benjamart room, which had sufficient space for my husband and I. The outdoor shower took a little time to get used to, but we grew to love it and now miss showering the Treetops way.

The pool was fantastic and we often found ourselves being the only one in it. Whilst Treetops is a reasonably sized hotel we never hardly saw any other people, apart from the hungry crowd at breakfast.

We cannot fault anything about Treetops and we are looking forward to returning there in the future

Great Honeymoon Destination

by TripAdvisor Member 07Honeymooner

We recently returned from our honeymoon and couldn't recommend anywhere better to go. You get the privacy of your own villa, we stayed in the Jamjuree Suite, we loved the set up of the room with our own lounge area that we could watch our DVD's if we wanted and loved the outdoor shower. My husband wasn't really fond of the toilet door, its only partially shaded glass, but once he was over that it was fine.

The resort staff were fabulous, we were greeted on arrival by fruit punch and gorgeous flowers. Our room was set up beautifully with rose petals in a love heart. We also received a bottle of champagne on arrival which was great. We loved the jacuzzi at the front of our room, especially watching the lightning storms that came through.

We loved the beach that was close by, it was crystal clear water and beautiful sand, no rocks like I had been told were there. If it got too hot in the sun we went and had massages which were great.

If you get the opportunity to have dinner in the restaurant, do it, we had the 3 course menu, which ended up being 5 courses and you get a cocktail of your choice. The food was spectacular, my husband and I think it was the best meal we had. If you want a good cheap Thai meal in patong, go to Sabai Sabai, its excellent value for money. There are also great restaurants on the beach at Surin, we loved Pla, service was always great and food great value.

No neagtives about the hotel, they delivered ice when we needed it, room service was prompt. The only thing is the mosquito's but the hotel did provide 2 bug zappers for us and I never got bitten once they were installed.

If its seclusion and privacy you are wanting for a honeymoon this is the place to go, ignore the comments about the power lines, yes you can see them, but really its Thailand you can get past that and the lunch menu didn't just have club sandwiches, we were quite impressed with the variety.

Can't wait to go back again and enjoy the Treetops pampering!!

Sublime

by TripAdvisor Member Matthew_Stewart

We stayed at Treetops from 9-15 April '07, and had a wonderful stay. The resort is terraced into the hillside, the rooms set in amongst beautifuly landscaped gardens. Yes, it is very steep & can be a long way up to your room if you are at the top (as we were) - 178 steps to be exact. But the resort will gladly run you up in a buggy, so it's really not an issue. In fact, the staff were even happy to drop us off & collect us from the nearby restaurants in Surin beach.

This is a quiet resort, perfect for couples and people looking for a relaxing time. This is not the place for a huge party with your mates. Nor is it a place that kids will find entertaining. It is really a place that is geared for adults/couples. Kids we think would be 100% welcome but it does not have the facilities that other bigger resorts have (eg.kids club etc, but they would probably be able to arganise baby sitting)

We stayed in a Benjamart suite, which was fabulous. I'd have liked to see what the other rooms were like, as ours was huge (& it was one of the smaller ones!) It was nicely appointed, and had a dvd/stereo. We had a spa bath on the balcony which we used frequently. The view from the balcony was fantastic. The shower was outdoors in a private courtyard overlooking a pond - beautiful.

Some reviews mention that the pool is small. Many other resorts have much bigger pools, this is true. However at other resorts you will be sharing the pool with many more guests. Treetops only has around 40 rooms, and during our stay only ever had to share with 1 or 2 other couples. Most of the time we had it to ourselves. Our favourite memories of the pool were the staff bringing us ice cold beers, placed on the wet edge of the pool (we could relax and have our drinks IN the pool), the fantastic (free) bar nibbles, and the ice cold refresher towels...brought around whenever you looked at little 'glowing'. All just wonderful.

The only thing that we thought could be improved is the beach club. At Surin beach, none of the resorts are directly on the beach - you need to cross a road & walk through a park to get to the sand. As guests of Treetops, you get to use the beach chairs free at one of the beach operations, but the one Treetops uses doesn't do food or drinks. The resort staff bring newspapers down for you and drive you back when requested, which is nice, but it would have been nice to order nibbles/drinks & billed them back to the room, without having to worry about carrying money. It's a pretty minor quibble though, but something that we think would make this resort one of the best in Phuket.

The most lasting impression of Treetops for us was the excellent service we received. The staff here are amazing. Polite, gracious and ever attentive. Really very impressive. Highly recommended - we would return in a heartbeat.

Treetops Arasia

by koolkatz_76

Hello everyone,

The bf and I are planning a romantic getaway in Phuket in early June, and we wanted a place which is more upmarket (so to speak!), preferably with a private pool or jacuzzi.

We've been looking at Treetops Arasia and greatly tempted. Anyone stayed there before? We would welcome any feedback before we book. Thanks!

Cheers :-)

RE: Treetops Arasia

by TedKarma

I live in the area (Cherng Talay, just down the road a bit) and think it would be hard to beat TreeTops. The views are STUNNING - and Surin Beach is a favorite of us local folks.

A comparison of TreeTops with a couple other newish and popular resorts is here:

That's great! Thank you and we're looking forward to our holiday there :-)

Very nice resort! But it is far from other places, and it is not on the beach.
I did not book there for that reason, as there are some livelier areas, but still, it is romantic you need, then it is a very good place.

The" Belgian-dutch" "Temptation island" has been shot there!

RE: RE: Treetops Arasia

by koolkatz_76

Hi Indieke,

I did book Treetops Arasia after all, and it was really gorgeous! Worth every cent. The pool was especially beautiful, and overall, the bf and i were very impressed. :-)

Only fault that I would find is that it is not close to the night activities, and the tuks tuks are either hard to come by, or they charge exhorbitant amounts. But we rented a rickety jeep for the day and got by just fine. :-)

Cheers,
Rena

Happy, you enjoyed your stay! And very coureageous to drive a car in Phuket!!!!

Do they have a shuttle to the beach, and wich one?

RE: RE: Treetops Arasia

We saw a shuttle that goes to Phuket Town, but seemed to be for the staff rather than guests. No other shuttles we saw!

Treetops Arasia Honeymoon-Need Privacy. Help!

by angelic69

Hi All,
I really need some advice from someone who been there and knows which rooms are private and which are not.

My hubby has tried to look for info on tripadvisor but nobody seems to be replying. Can anyone help out?

Will be going to treetops sometime in Early December too.
Does anybody have a map of the place or any recommendations as to which room has the most privacy?
Will be booking the Benjamart room and someone recommended a Jamjuree Suite. Room 811.
Anybody been there? Will be going there for a honeymoon and will really need privacy with any neighbors looking into the room. :)
Would also love to get the no tanlines look if possible. I'm English and have a big white butt that seriously needs a tan.
Any suggestions will be great, Benjamart or Jamjuree. Just really need the privacy.
Thanks!

RE: Treetops Arasia Honeymoon-Need Privacy. Help!

by zoesimpspn

Hi
I stayed there for 1 night last year. I stayed in the Jamjuree room (can't remember which number) and it had good privacy. The only thing was when I was getting out the the jacuzi to run in side to get clothes, the workman that were building could see me. If they have finised you won't have any problems.

bungalow or amazing villa by the water

by Robert-Australia

Hi
Does anyone know of a really nice place or bungalow by the water on phuket?
I was thinking a couple of beaches away from patong so were close enough but not in the mix.
Im going in september with my girlfriend.
I want it to be really special.
I can pay up to $400 a night if need be....

Anyone know of something that is truly amazing, amazing views, nice location etc.

Thank you in advance
Regards
Rob
:)

Re: bungalow or amazing villa by the water

by Maxiediva

Hi Rob,
Banyan Tree Phuket comes to mind. (very private, close to beach)
Phuket Pavalions, Amanpuri, Ayara hilltops and The Chedi are spectacular luxury class resorts. I'd suggest Burasari, which is in Patong but you wouldnt realise it with all the tropical lush greenery around.
Most of these properties accept direct online booking, so you can be sure you have a confirmed reservation when you arrive.

Re: bungalow or amazing villa by the water

by wanderer9020

by the water??? hmm, i cannot think anything than Maldives, but not in Phuket.Google, The Racha, its private paradise in Phuket but the villas are not in water like in Maldives or Bora Bora in French Polynesia

Re: bungalow or amazing villa by the water

by Robert-Australia

Thanks for the quick replies :)
it doesnt need to be on the water but a bungalow or villa with our own part of the beach and step out on to the sand and then the water is what i had in mind.
I will look into all your recommendations. thanks.
if anyone knows a place like what i have in mind, please let me know. a couple of beaches away from patong.

many thanks
Rob

Re: bungalow or amazing villa by the water

by Robert-Australia

how far is racha island from phuket? is it like 10 mins in a speed boat or?
is there any night life? quality restaurants?

Re: bungalow or amazing villa by the water

by wanderer9020

im afraid, it will take you at least 45 minutes by speedboat, far isnt it? and due to tidal conditions, you cant transfer there after 4 pm I beleive or 5 pm. Night is definitely nothing but just chillin in their own private bar and restaurants which might be not suited with ur requirements.

Re: bungalow or amazing villa by the water

by Quero

I would recommend Mom Tri's Villa Royale which is on a headland between Kata and Kata Noi beaches. If you want to be right on the sand, they have their original boutique-style resort, Mom Tri's Boathouse, too. Down a couple of steps from the hotel swimming pool and you're in the sand.

If you need more help with this, PM me and I'll send you more details.
