 | | | | Sweet Home: Posh 8 rooms hotel at Kalim Beach | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Firstly, I salute the way this hotel is being designed and built as well as its management strategy. I was being told by the manager that this hotel is owned by a local Thai-chinese from easthern Thailand. Sweet Home is an 8-rooms posh hotel. Imagine an 8-rooms hotel offering private swimming pool, sauna, restaurant, Thai massage and hair & beauty salon. Yes!!! Its an incredible feat for Sweet Home and its still standing firm. This hotel is more like a private residential property than a hotel. All rooms are beautifully designed and feature private balconies, overlooking the pool and with an ocean view. Room amenities include air-conditioning, satellite TV, refrigerator, minibar, en-suite bedroom with hot and cold shower, safety box and laundry services. Other facilities include swimming pool, with poolside bar, conference room and a motorcyle or car hire service. Sweet Home also has a hair and beauty salon offering massage, haircuts, highlights, hair extension, manicures, nail extentions, pedicures, facial and other treatments. A traditional Thai massage by the pool, amongst the scented tropical flowers is also available upon request. On my last visit on October 2003, Sweet Home is selling their rooms at 2500 bahts during the low-season and 3500 bahts during the high season. However, advanced reservation is recommended as I was told that rooms for the month of November and December are fully booked since 3-4 months ago.
Sweet Home Restaurant and Bed & Breakfast is positioned in lush woodland on a hillside overlooking the beautiful Patong Bay. Situated away from the hustle and bustle of the town, yet only a three minutes drive from Patong beach, Sweet Home is set in a tranquil tropical garden, with a panoramic vista of the ocean and distant mountains. Sweet Home also offers free pick-up and drop-off service in the Patong area for patrons of their restaurants. | | | | The Orchid Kalim Bay: Kalim Bay Budget Hotel | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
The Orchid Hotel is a small, 4 storey 3* hotel at the Kalim beach, just 5 minutes drive north of Patong beach. It is directly facing the sea and has 25 standard, superior and deluxe rooms. Most of the rooms have a clear sea-view. This hotel is good for family travel because of the warm hospitality it offers. All rooms are euipped with Cable TV, IDD phone, mini-bar and safety box. Other facilites it provides are internet corner and laundry services. It also has a swimming pool, restaurant, car rental and mini-travel agency. The Orchid Hotel has its own fleet of transport vehicles offering airport-hotel, hotel -airport transfers and city tour. The mini-travel agency offers packages to nearby island like Koh Lanta and Koh Phi Phi. It also offers elephant rides, bungee jumping and even water rafting at Phang Nga. During my last visit on October 2003, this hotel is selling their rooms for between 800-1500 bahts, depending on availability and season. All rates are inculsive of daily breakfast. But the breakfast service is exceptionally special which is different from most hotels. The Orchid Hotel offers breakfast of your choice until 11am. You can either dine at the restaurant or to request the food to be sent to your room. If my memory doesn't shy away, The Orchid Hotel is owned by a Britain. I ever had a conversation with him and he is a warm and friendly guy. A professional and the good hospitality he emphasized on his staffs, gives most guests a good and wonderful stay at his hotel. This hotel is worth a try!! The Orchid Hotel 318,320 Prabaramee Rd. | | | | Marriott Phuket Beach Club: Marriott Resort & Spa Phuket Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Well, what can I say - we have Marriott time share..... so we're at the Marriott again.... This time in Phuket, we're beginning to get their concept. Here on the island the Marriott is about a 40 minute drive to "town". A great place for couples and families, I guess. Someone who doesn't want to leave the hotel, perfect for someone who is not really interested in seeing "Thailand", trying local food, or meeting the locals. They do have a Thai Night Market, that is an attempt at local color. It does have the Marriott feel. The Marriott has made it rather difficult to leave this resort, literally. One must order a Taxi, preferably an hour in advance, or you can take a Shuttle bus, but be warned the times of the shuttle are inconvenient, and drop-off/pick-up locations out of the way and restrictive. You are really better off in a cab. Plus the cab drivers will wait for you (cabs back to the hotel can be hard to find) for an additional, however nominal, fee (round trip and 3 hr wait 1500 BHT). The hotel has 5 restaurants, however surprisingly none of them Thai?!@#$ All very good, but VERY western. Cucina is the "Best Italian in Asia" and quite good - reminded me very much of a place back home (you know pretty much any trendy Italian place you can think of) The spa is beautiful, and I just recently saw it on one of the Top Spa Destinations in the World on one of those travel shows. You can expect to pay the same price for services as you would back home ($60 to $120 per treatment). However you can get a much better massage from one of the masseuses on the beach (MUCH cheaper too 300 BHT - less then 10 bucks!) The hotel offers activities from learning to scuba to beach fitness classes, however come rain they cancel them with no back up plan.... I dropped by here on my 2nd, 3rd & 4th visit to Thailand - on the 2nd right after the Tsunami - and it was still there, they had made a quick recovery and there were no signs of the Tsunami disaster there (besides vacancy rate.)
The Pool is AMAZING! Beautiful! great for kids with an activity room too. Hotel right on beach where you may get luck and spot a Sea Turtle. However, There is NOTHING I mean NOTHING within walking distance to this hotel, not even a convience store. The Marriott does offer quite the compound, it gets a bit expensive and leaves one longing for culture, but there is a lot there. The condos are spacious and well appointed. And again the Spa is quite pretty and the fitness center is nice too! | | | | Panwa Beach Resort Phuket (3 Moo 8 Ao Yon Wichit Muang ): Quiet place with a private beach Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
It is a small hotel - just 77 rooms in cozy 1 to 4-floor buildings. I enjoyed great service, cleanliness and calm beauty of the place. I recommend it to people who want to have some rest from the noise of big cities, who want to be close to the sea and who does not want to fight for a place in the beach.
There is a small pool. In every room there are kimonos and slippers, a hair dryer, a flashlight and a big umbrella. In my room there was a bathtub with a handheld shower and a separate shower unit. Canoes, mountain bikes, masks, snorkels and flippers, badminton, ping-pong, beach towels are free for the hotel guests. Every day two complimentary bottles of drinking water are provided for each room. Sunsets are great! | | | | Seapearl Beach Hotel: SeaPearl Beach -At the edge of Patongs Beach | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
The Seapearl Beach Hotel is located on the southern edge of Patong Beach you are a little outside of all the "trouble". There is the main road, though, which goes from Patong to Phuket that is at the side of the hotel. If you can, I would advise you to take a room in the 3rd or 4th floor, then you won't hear the traffic. A lot of rooms have nice views at the sea - although I did not need it, since we were out most of the day.
The rooms are clean, quite spacey and have TV, bath, fridge and air conditioning as well as a ventilator. No bugs as far as I have seen (and I normally am the "bug magnet"). I heard of other hotels with problems with that. The interior and entrance hall (as you can see in the pic) is high and airy. You should not take your hotel baths towels to the beach, but you can get some for free for that purpose in the hotel. The beach starts right in front of the hotel, just stumble over the street and you are there. And yes, they also have a small swimmingpool, but why use this when you can go into the sea? As in almost every hotel here, they also offer massages and making your nails or hairs - but I would go outside for that. It will be cheaper.
