Isolated Jungle Beach hotel

Baan Krating is very isolated-located on the southern tip of phuket-a hour from the airport-near Phuket town. It's kind of crazy that you have to go through the Le Meredien yacht club service entrance and a very curvy road to get to this hotel. There were only a few other people at this place when we were there. The bunaglows are very nice. Ours had a nice view of the sea. Bathrooms were simple, but had special shampoos and conditioners made for this boutique hotel. The beach was rocky and small, but nice-you share it with some other guest house. There were a bunch of windsurfers staying here-so it must be very good for this. You can use the beach at Nai Harn(next to Le Meredien) The restaurant staff seemed to take a long time to make our food and drinks. My husband asked for a watermelon shake and got a banana instead. They don't speak great english, but they try hard-so you have to excuse some miscommunications.

This hotel is very isolated. More so than i originally thought. This should only be for couples, who want to get away from everything. You can't really walk to anything-the Le Meredien is about 15 min walk, but could be dangerous since it's not lighted at night and has very sharp turns. But the staff will easily book you a cab-there are close restaurants at Cape Panwa and Patong Beach is about 30-45 mins away.

Bungalow Hideaway

This is a small resort of bungalows which are built on platforms and brick stilts (I suppose you could call them stilts!), and climb up the hill from the beach. The lowest rooms are about 50m from the beach, the highest, probably about 400m up the side of the hill.

There were some single (or detached) bungalows and one block which was like a block of 4 together (with interconnecting balcony doors). We were in a semi-detatched one (two rooms next to each other).

The bungalows all look wooden, but they are actually brick I think with a wooden outside to make them look more authentic! The rooms were clean and well presented with the usual toiletries provided. Also provided beach towels which was useful.

This was a very quiet place to be. It was apparently about half full when we were there, but it was so peaceful, it seemed even emptier than that. It is a place to go if you like to sit out and have a drink on your balcony at night and listen to the gekkos calling. It is definitely NOT the place to go if you want to go out to bars and discos, basically because you would be sadly disappointed if that was your intention (the nearest bars were about 3 miles away!).

The facilities were good - nothing too fancy. There is a small pool with some sun loungers, a restaurant which is open all day (service wasn't too good so take a book!). There is a small beach which was quite good for snorkelling and is only really used by this resort and a small backpacker place next door (Ao Nang I believe it was called). There is a lady who rents out sun loungers and parasols and also sells drinks.

Unique Quality: The resort was lovely because when they built it, they didn't chop down all the trees and replant (as often happens) - they have built the bungalows around the existing trees, which means that it does really look like the name suggests (jungle beach) plus there is alot of shade.

Most remote resort in Phuket

Baan Krating Jungle Beach is a small and secluded resort on the extreme southern tip of Phuket island. It has 30 individual bungalows set in a jungle covered hillside leading down to a small beach on a calm bay. If you are looking for close proximity to shopping, nighclubs, and tons of exciting activites, then this place is not for you. It is truly the most remote corner the island. But if you are looking for peace, privacy, and relaxation, then this resort can't be beat. My wife and I stayed for a weekend in March 05, only a little over two months since the tsunami, and I can assure you that this resort is fully operational with no visible signs of tsunami damage.

Unique Quality: The resort is quite far from the airport, about an hour drive in fact. If you don't already have transfers included, you can find a metered taxi in the airport parking lot, and the fare to Baan Krating will be around 500 Baht, which is still cheaper than the limo services on offer in the arrival hall.

To reach Baan Krating, you literally have to drive through Le Royal Meridian Yacht Club, as the resort is a short drive behind it. Recpetion can arrange transport for you to reach other areas of the island (beaches, restaurants, shops, etc.) but it will cost you. Again, this resort is only recommendable if you really desire seclusion.

Best hotel I have ever stayed at Phuket

This is the newly built sun-tanned area on its very own private beach. The sea is suitable for swimming during the low tides.

Best hotel I have ever stayed at Phuket

This is the view from outside the room.

This is a sea-view bungalow. And the beach is just about 20m away. And it is a private beach, catered for hotel guests only.

An ideal place for nude swimming and sun-tanning.

Best hotel I have ever stayed at Phuket

This hotel is remote and isolated. Located at the extreme southern tip of Phuket. It is not easily accessible unless you are driving. But every taxi or tuk-tuk driver should be able to know this hotel.

Fantastic atmosphere if you like the combination of nature, forest and sea at your offerings.

They provide airport transfer from airport to hotel at around 1000baht per van.

Recently, on my last trip to Phuket dated back 4th Jan 2004, a visit to this hotel again, i found that it is selling at 4500 bahts per night. A really gigantic leap compared to my 700 bahts paid during the SARS period.

Unique Quality: A 35 rooms hotel, with swimming pool and restaurant overlooking the sea and surrounded by a jungle of tress. It also has car rental and travel helpdesk at the reception.

They have also built a sun tann platform on iheir private beach.

The rooms are marvellous. Very unique and its thai style. You can see it from the picture.

This hotel my No.1 choice.

Accomodation at Ao Phang Nga National Park

by shane_02 about Ao Phang Nga National Park

This is the Ao Phang Nga National park Headquarters. But in it, there is accomodation (with simple amenities), a restaurant (very good food and environment), nature trail and easy acess to James Bond Island and Phang Nga Bay.

Personally, i've never stayed here before but i always came here to eat whenever i am in Phang Nga or driving to Koh Samui.

There is only one air-conditioned room with queen-sized bed and toilet going for 900baht. They also have rooms for 6, 10 or 15 people at below 2000baht for each room.

Its a very natural environment as there is no hotel offering accomodation that is very close to nature. The other one i know that is near to it and is posh, is Baan Krating Jungle Beach Resort. Very close to nature. Good for nature lovers. Please refers to my travelogues undert Ao Phang Nga National Park and James Bond Island ro view its surroundings.

Baan Krating or Andaman Bangtao for kids?

by templem

Hi,
We'll be on Phuket in January and are trying to decided between Baan Krating or Andaman Bangtao Bay Resort. Our kids are 7, 4 and 1. Andaman Bangtao seems a bit small (12 bungalows), and I'm worried we'd be the only family there. I can only find sawadee reviews, and though they're positive, I get a sort of luke-warm vibe from folks who've responded to other inquiries about it. Also, I can't find any comments about the restaurant. How far is Andaman Bangtao from beach restaurants, esp. Lotus? Lastly, how will the beach be for swimming in January?

Baan Krating gets very mixed reviews, and seems rather isolated and romantic for our crew. I'd hate to ruin someone's honeymoon...;) How exactly would one get to Nai Harn from there? Can we walk or would we be trapped? Is the restaurant there okay? Are there beach restaurants on Nai Harn or in other places very near Baan Krating? I am also a bit worried about the renovations that are underway, though Sawadee tells me that they should be complete by Dec. 5. Thoughts on this?

BTW, I've already checked the other obvious kid-friendly places. They are either too big and resorty or booked up.

Anyway, thanks for any help you can offer. I really appreciate it.
Warmly,
temple

Andaman Bang Tao is probably a more kids friendly environment - esp as all the bungalows front right on to the sea (across a small grounds area) - any excess of noise should pretty easily be covered by the pleasant sounds of the sea.

Lotus Restaurant would be about a 15-18 minute walk - but with MANY excellent restaurants along the way - all right on the beach. AND, the restaurant at the Andaman BangTao is also excellent. Also a nice new Indian restaurant in the little community in that area. Also Nok and Jo's - excellent.

The beach will be great in January. It is great already!

To Nai Harn - a good 50 minute taxi ride.

Thank you Ted. We'll happily make the hike to Lotus, but good to know we have so many other choices.
Thanks again,
