Best place to stay in or near Phuket

by Mehrdad

Hi ever one,
First off, thanks for any info an suggestions.

I will be going to Thuket in March 20 for about 10 days and main interest would be healthy activities and good diving, so I was wondering what are the best locations to stay at for this and if there is any recommendation for hates & such around $40-$45. I think I prefer cottages that are in a more natural settings rather then big hotels. Definitely not big hates :)
Also any diving outrigger that you can recommend.

Thanks again

Hi, I have a few suggestions about places to stay. I don't know about diving, sorry.

Baan Mai Cottages ( Koh Lone)
Kamala Coco Hut ( Kamala beach)
Thavorn Beach bungalow ( Nakalay beach)
Baan Krating Jungle Beach (Ao Sane Beach)

I found these places at www.phuketdelight.com
Good luck and enjoy your stay ;)

Travel Tips for Phuket

Songkhran

by JohnandSuzie

This event is over a few days in april the hotest and dryest month.......it is normally over a few days but once in Pattaya a few years ago it went on for 2 weeks........
Basically the whole country erupts into big water fights............you will wherever you are get wet in doors or outside...........don't bother changing into dry clothes you will just get wet again even battles rage while driving down the road and accident rates go up.
Its mad but fun and if you think it will annoy you after a while then miss this time of year or stay in your hotel room.................thats exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Golf

by dragontml

Thailand has rapidly become an important golfing destination of Asia, boasting well over 100 golf courses scattered throughout the country. Many of them are newly opened with lush surroundings and superbly equipped club-houses. And many more are being developed. Some of the courses have been designed by well known golf pros such as Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player.

Shop shop shop

by namidub

I'm not a shoppaholic. But some tips for shopping in phuket will be - Avoid tourist-area like Patong,James bond island, they will put a very high price for their items Try n shop in some remote areas eg near Wat Chalong, where a row of small shops operate.

Dont forget to bargain bargain and bargain.Almost everything here is bargainable. I bought : Tshirts

Other things i dont buy but worth looking at : Home decors eg tablelamp, vase, handicrafts Bargain many times before agreeing price.
Try to cut the price half or more.Walk away and they will offer lower price.

For example. A good quality black tshirt in James bond island is priced at 650Bht.I got mine for 100Baht (USD2.50)

Live music - great bands!!!

by HeyDee about Jammin

Jammin became my fave bar ever when I first time visited there. It's located in Phuket town, thou not in the centre but easy to find.

I went there only during the weekends, but I believe that the bands play during the week days, too. The idea is that there's a band and few singers, that all perfom either alone or together. They were mostly young Thais and they really surprised me with their skills!! The songs they play are the lates hits from Rock to Rn'b - I highly recommend everyone to go to Jammin if you're around :)

I know , I know , the photo is not good enough , BUT don't miss to experience Tuc-Tuc.
It's like you haven't visit Thailand at all :))
You can explore the island by Tuc-Tuc and pay depends on distance . Let's say from 100 - 600 BATH .
Don't forget bargaing !
Also you can rent a car or a motorcycle which are also not expensive. As you wish :))
