Contact your hotel and ask them for pickup when your flight arrives to the airport. They will wait for you at the arrival with a sign with your name.
The price is the same as if you get a taxi and you pay to the hotel.

Hi, we used a private driver on our recent visit. I got his details from a VT member and E-mailed him in advance to get a price and make arrangements. We were met at the airport by a smiling Mr. Sydny ( yep that's what he calls himself ) who had a board with our name on it. This avoided the scrum that exists just outside the airport as herds of drivers try to get you into their taxi. We were charged 650THB each way to get to Kamala Bay which is just north of Patong. I would guess that this would be cheaper than something arranged by the hotel. We also hired Mr. Sydny for a whole day to take us around the island. This was great value as we were picked up at 10.00 and dropped off at about 5.00 p.m. after a busy day. I think that this cost about 1100THB.
Please drop me an E-mail if you would like any more details or Mr. Sydny's E-mail address to get a quote.
Travel Tips for Phuket
Swimmming on Kuta beach
by lucy60
Especially in rainy season, the sea is rough on Kuta, waves are very high and there are submarine currents. So swimming is at own risk. A lot of tourists were near to drown and somenone had to go to Phukhet hospital. If any accident occurs it's better have a good insurance. Medical care are not free of charge and often are expensive. Sunset on Phrompet Cape.
Culture
by dragontml
Thailand is located at the meeting point of the two great cultural systems of Asia Chinese and Indian. In everyday life, Chinese culture has mixed very well with the Thai, whereas in Thai court culture, which has been based mainly on Buddhism and Brahmanism, India has exerted a strong influence. Thai culture can be divided into 3 aspects: linguistic culture, court culture and traditional culture.
Khao Nor Chuchi

This is a fine nature reserve favored by birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts located in Krabi Province. Many people come here in search of a rare bird called Gurneys Pitta. I did not see it. There are numerous trails, a wodden boardwalk and a lovely emerald pool for swimming.
Its a nice experience to go swimming in the jungle.
Keep Bargaining!
by Vickster about Patong Beach
Patong Beach hosts a huge variety of shops, stalls and markets and there is without doubt something for everyone. If you like framed, dead scorpions, spiders and beetles then there's plenty to choose from.
Other than that they have wood carvings, batik silk , silk paintings and fans and an array of knives and weaponry.
The best buys though are jewellery - rubies, sapphires and jade. They might initially appear costly, but compare them with prices back home and you'll find you've got a bargain.
HOWEVER a word of warning - only buy expensive gems and jewellery from a recognised retailer - or you may not really be getting what you think you've paid for. What To Pay: Whatever you choose to buy make sure you haggle about the price. Even if they say it's their 'best price' you can guarantee a lower price of you keep trying.
Go-go bars
by phil_uk_net
The picture shows my Australian mate, Bob. I think this was taken on my 1992 trip to Thailand. There is a lot of 'adult' entertainment in Thailand and some of the bars are themed. I can't possibly imagine what the theme of this particular place was!
