Khao Sok National Park

by lifecoach

Hello all, I'll be going to Phuket for 10 days in May and I am thinking of using part of that time (probably two nights) for a side trip to Khao Sok. I'm looking for opinions as to if you think it would be worth while doing this or better to just spend the time in Phuket. I realize its just a matter of opinion but I'm interested in what you all have to say. Thanks so much, Debra

Having been to Khao Sok a few times, I would say why not. 10 days is quite a lot to spend in one place, at least for me, as I can't just lay on the beach and do nothing. The scenery in Khao Sok is very different than in Phuket. And there is a number of activities that you can do in Khao Sok...hiking, tubing, kayaking, lake cruise, night safari, etc. But I wouldn't book the activities now, wait until you get there. It's often cheaper.

while in phuket do take a day trip to phi phi island and another one to james bond and phang nga bay.
one word of caution about tours, the operators could fleece you.check more than in two or three places and bargain.
I found South smile tours(recommended by another vt member, lindy)to be the most reasonable. It is located in the lane opposite hard rock cafe and on the road toward oolong market,as soon as you enter it is on the left.the lady there is called Apple. Her number is 0896 525819.she also organises trips to other places.
have a good trip,

Travel on a took-took in the middle of Bangkok trafic during rush hour! Thrilling! The people are so unbelivably friendly and really go out of their way to make you feel at home in their country!

Fast Food- Thai Style

by trevndebs

Just sit in your favorite watering hole and in a shorrt while, you will hear a horn being blown and the local food seller will push his cart along and prepare his snacks for the shop and bar workers.

My First Parasailing!

by WSH80

What a nice experience for me! I love it, even though it's only for about 3 minutes (1 small round in the sky) for THB700 (inclusive of tips). It costs THB1,000 for a longer time (bigger round in the sky). I guess just you, and someone to take pictures/videos for you. :-)

Hypermarket Shopping

by jrs1234 about Tesco-Lotus

If you're keen on doing some shopping and want some keen prices you don't have to bargain over, then you could do worse than stop by the local Tesco-Lotus hypermarket. As well as the usual hypermarket selection of bargain foodstuffs and clothes (including good value T-shirts), the Phuket branch has a little souvenir section with some nice handicrafts. I got a lovely cushion cover here as a souvenir at a bargain price.

In addition to the main store, there's also a small mall attached which is well worth a wander around.

It's open from 9am until midnight daily, but these hours may be reduced in the near future - the Thai government is getting rattled by the rise in oil prices and is trying to get people to go home early......

nightlife phuket

by norrie8568 about Clubs, bars, go go

phuket in general is a beautiful island, patong on the other hand is englands equal to blackpool,,yes there are loads of working girls everywhere, some nice some not so nice,,,its the industry there,,so its all around you,,if this is not what you want ,the island offers other scenic locations which are stunning,,if you are a couple your probably better staying out of patong,,,then again,,maybe not,,whatever flies your kite,,
new closing times are being introduced on march 1st,,ive been told 1am,,,some even say midnight,,this will kill patong,,ill update on my return early may,,
regards
paul
