trips to Phi Phi bought at tour agency has been pretty cheap this year. I booked a hotel and ride with pickup from hotel and back for 1000 bahts a person special. Check the agency when you get to Phuket and get the package deal. Cheers Tommy x

Re: General

with tour agency the pick-up from where you are is often included, no need for bus or taxi to pier

We took the slower ferry to James Bond Island. Booked it from Beach Rd vendors, all similar prices. Paid 1,000Baht (£20)each. July 2010.
Pick-up/return from hotel included, unlimited soft drinks, fruit & buffet lunch also included. 40 min drive to ferry from Patong beach,
Visited Bond Island first, kayaked at another couple of other islands thru caves into lagoons & went swimming at another island. Good fun. Enjoy.

Travel Tips for Phuket

Sun, sea and fun

by asitrav

Nothing in particular. Perhaps the beautiful view of beaches from View Point. James Bond Island is a must itinerary. Souviners are cheap. Try Tom Yam, a traditional food of Thailand. Remember, Phuket lives at night! I love the show in Simon Cabaret. Done by transvestite. It's just entertaining!

Participating at a temple

by Tina-Perth

I thought I'd include the chant used at the temples for anyone who'd like to participate as fully as they can. This chant is not only used at temples, but is also performed at blessings. You can print it out and take it with you. It is performed with your hands together as in the wei.

Get on ya bike

by austarman

This is the way that I like to do anywhere in Asia wherever possible.
These small bikes may not go very fast but, "HEY who wants to?"
I believe that when you are on holiday there is time to smell the roses. Sometimes I need a bigger bike if I am going over the mountains and there are a few in Phuket.
You can still take someone one the back of one of these and shopping goes in the front no worries.
If you can get out of the tourist areas there are many markets around like this one where there are many bargains.
It's always so hot that you can ride around in just the basic shorts and a tee-shirt which I love a lot.
These bikes are dead easy to ride so get one and cruise around it's great. ;-)

Central Festival Shopping Centre

by Cathy&Gary about Central Festival

Central Festival is a large modern shopping mall in Phuket.

This huge modern complex has every type of shop you could imagine with many brand names available. (Real brand names of course - not copies!!)

There are sports shops, clothes shops, beauty shops, jewellery, homeware, computer, mobile phone shops and if its shoes you are after, you will find the most beautiful ones here. There is a good supermarket and department store plus a state of the art cinema complex.

If you have problems buying shoes in Phuket have a look at the Bata shop - they have big sizes for women!!

Every taste is catered for as well in the eating department. From KFC, Sizzlers and Pizza Hut, to the food hall, or try some of the more upmarket restaurants.

There are also quite a few ATM's at Central Festival, tour centres, banks. Everything you would expect from a major shopping mall is here.

Well worth a visit.

The choice at Central Festival is endless.
