Elephant safari
by stiab3
I had mixed feelings about the elephant safari. On one hand I felt a bit sorry for the elephants but on the other hand it was an interesting experience.
Apparently elephants were used extensively for labour but not that it's not the case anymore, elephants end up transporting tourists and being used for pleasure.
I guess most of the elephants that are used now were bred in captivity.
Chinese Vegetarian Festival
by keeweechic
Each year beginning on the first day of the ninth month of the Chinese year (usually in late September or early October) Phuket islanders of Chinese ancestry obligate themselves to a 9 day vegetarian diet. This routine is undertaken with the belief that the body and spirit will be thoroughly cleansed thus ensuing the following year will be blessed with good luck. On the first day of the festival there is a parade of devotees clothed all in white as well as some events like fire walking, and some others which are probably harder to watch such as iron rods being pushed through different parts of the body.
See the beasts you've never seen before!

Take a flashlight and walk on the beach at night. It was a fascinating experience for me and my friends. Try not to make much noise, and you can make a few discoveries!
I believe the crab in the picture is a hermit crab, but even if it's not, isn't it a beauty?
First stop Tesco-Lotus
by genie47 about Tesco-Lotus
Located along the Bypass Road of the 402, this is the first stop after getting your car from the rental and before heading off to your resort (should it be equipped with a kitchenette).
Load up on stuff you usually need for a late night snack but mainly on breakfast items. You want to just eat and go to attractions or simply for the fact you want to save some money over expensive resort breakfasts. Eggs, bread, canned food like tuna, baked beans. If the kitchenette have a refrigerator, maybe stock up on bacon, ham, some fruit or even juices.
If the journey is long going back to the resort or you have other plans besides going to the resort like catching a movie at Central Festival, try not to buy perishables like fresh milk or fresh fruit.
Local produce is always cheaper and ditto with house brand items.
A note to women of Asian petite sizes. Their house brand Florence and Fred lingerie especially brassieres got top marks from Jasmine for their fit. Very affordable at THB350.
