The beach was fantastic, whenever you see a picture pf a phuket beach on a postcard or in a brochure nine times out of ten it is the beach at this hotel.
The food was superb with a wide range of restaurants to choose from.
There is a tram down a slight hill to the beach for those of you who are feeling lazy!

I and my family stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and it was a pleasant stay. I booked 2 studio rooms. When I checked in , the staff informed me that they upgraded us to 2 one-bedroom rooms. The room was big and cozy. Service was great. We rode a free shuttle bus to Cape Panwa Hotel to enjoy the beach over there
Phuket- quiet at Cape Panwa
by Melbournite about Bay Hotel
We stayed a week at the Bay Hotel at Cape Panwa in May, 2005. The room/suite was huge for about $Australian 45 a day. Bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette, dining table, lounge suite with TV, small balcony overlooking pool and islands across the bay.
Much cheaper than its sister hotel, Cape Panwa Hotel up the hill. Guests at the Bay Hotel can use the pools and the facilities at the other hotel. A shuttle bus between the two hotels runs all day and until about midnight. This takes 3 minutes, if that. There is a small rooftop pool for short laps. Fabulous view of the bay and islands.
Delightful staff. Intelligent , good-humoured and helpful reception staff.
Great value for money- that was because the tourist numbers were so far down after the tsunami five months before.
The other side of the island from the noise, shops and nightlife of Patong- so it's wonderful if you want to avoid all that stuff. Cape Panwa is near a quiet village in a muslim area.

Cape Panwa Sheraton Hotel sits on a hill on the southern tip of the east coast of Phuket Island and enjoys panoramic views of the Andaman Sea. The hotel also has its own private beach is quiet and sheltered from the westerly wind and so provides safe swimming. The hotel is self-contained, cozy and ideal for those who seek tranquility and natural surroundings. It was lovely to be away from the tourist areas but close enough to get to easily.
In the Cape Panwa area which is unlike areas such as Patong Beach, it is quieter with not so many tourists and is well suited to families or those seeking a quiet holiday. Unlike other hotels, Cape Panwa does not suffer from the ill-effects of mass tourism. It is aimed at families and individual tourists who prefer a quality and peaceful hotel.

Cape Panwa Hotel 4*
All different types of boarding arrangements can be catered for ie. semi inclusive to room only.
This varies due to the time of year and whether or not you have room only or bed and breakfast or with lunch or with dinner or semi inclusive. I guess around £60 is average. (British Pound Sterling) The standard of cleanliness in this place is outstanding. The service fantastic, food absolutely marvellous. 2 swimming pools, tennis courts, 5 restaurants, several bars plus much more.

As this was a family holiday I didn't stay in backpacker accomodation so I can't make any recommendations there! In Bangkok we stayed at the Pathumwan Princess Hotel, one of the big skyscrapers. This was a really nice hotel, great pool outside on the 8th floor with a nice view. It's attached to the MBK shopping centre which is enormous and full of lots of interesting things as well as some department stores and fast food outlets. It's quite central for both the Skytrain and Hualamphong Train Station.
Down at Phuket we stayed at the Cape Panwa Hotel which was a little hit and miss. The surroundings were beautiful but our accomodation wasn't what we expected and the isolated location caused a few problems when wanting to travel around the island. All up not very cheap!

a little piece of heaven!

Just returned from 17 days at the Cape Panwa - having read all the previous reviews I didn't think anywhere could be that good, but it was an excellent hotel in a beautiful setting. If you want bright lights and girlie bars, don't go to the Cape Panwa Hotel - the only noise there is birds singing, waves crashing on the beach and monkeys chattering!
We had a lovely room, always scrupulously clean and very spacious and modern.
The breakfasts were varied and huge - any amount of food of every type imaginable.
We had dinner in the hotel several times and always enjoyed them.
It's worth getting out and eating in the nearby restaurants, they are a bit cheaper and it's nice to spread your holiday cash around I think.
The first restaurant up the hill from the hotel, the Hill Top, has stunning views and the owner is charming.
The only disappointing meal we had was at Nan's Italian restaurant at the Bay Hotel (sister hotel to the Cape Panwa)- atmosphere very poor and food average.
We did several trips - best one was to James Bond island and the other islands northeast of Phuket - had a great time with Tour East - great tour operator - bit more pricey than some, but they looked after us so well and kept us supplied constantly with food and cold drinks - also lifejackets!
There's a great trip from the Cape Panwa Hotel on the hotel boat to Coral Island - 30 minutes away. If you enjoy snorkelling, this was just fabulous. (We went twice)
Word of warning - lots of sun cream on your back and shoulders!! You can forget just how long you are in the water for as there's so much to see.
We met lots of nice people at the hotel - some had been there ten times!! Not sure we will return there as we like to go to different places, but if I had to visit Phuket again I'd want to stay at the Cape Panwa.
We took a quick drive through Patong, Kata and Karon - boy were we glad we weren't staying at any of these places...rows and rows of deck chairs on the beaches, loads of noisy traffic, beach vendors, tacky shops and bars - and that was during the day!! Can't imagine what it would be like at night.
So, overall had a lovely time in Thailand - the people are charming and we were never ripped off - treat people as you would be treated yourself and you won't go far wrong.
And don't forget - these people are financially poor compared to us in the West, but they don't complain and are very family-orientated and seem much more contented that we are - maybe we could learn something from them.

Cape Panwa

Hello!
I´m looking for information on The Bay Hotel, Cape Panwa.
We have a hard time to decide where to stay, Cape Panwa or Kata.
Planning to go with two kids (4 and 6y. age).
Is there any difference between the beaches if we want to go by longtail to the islands? or do we have to go to Chalong to find the boats anyway?
Best regards , Helen.

Hi Helen, Panwa, 'though very beautiful, is a bit isolated from the rest of the island. I am pretty sure you'll have to get to Ao Chalong for boats. My guess would be that unless you want to get away from it all, your best bet is Kata.
