More about Centara Karon Resort Phuket
Would definitely return!

We arrived at the Central Karon Beach Resort (now known as the Centara) following a four day stay in Bangkok.
We were extremely impressed with the service from the moment the car door was opened for us. The bellboys were so friendly and helpful and
we would never have gone to half of the places during our stay if it had not been for them helping us. The resort was very clean and large
with three swimming pools to choose from. We went during low season and we could not believe how quiet it was. We never once saw a towel on a sun lounger unless there was someone there. The pool was quiet and the staff obviously very attentive.
The restaurant was very good, breakfast was a pleasure again probably
due to low season, but we could choose to sit where we wanted and didnt have to fight for the food. The hotel puts on themed nights in the restaurant and has live singers. It was a bit quiet during the 10
nights we stayed which was a shame considering the amount of effort they put in to every themed night. Very rarely were there more than 10 people in the restaurant.
The hotel is close to other bars and restaurants and the 'Happy Massage' parlour which my husband was very fond of!! There is also an irish pub just outside the hotel resort along with lots of shops and stalls.
The weather was very hot but we did naturally have quite a bit of rain as well. Nothing to put you off though, still warm and everyone is so happy and friendly it didnt affect our stay at all. I would highly recommend visiting in low season.
We have invited the bellboys to stay with us in England if they ever come over for travels or studying. One of them came back on his day off, early in the morning, to say goodbye to us and had bought us gifts! We were genuinely touched and have swapped addresses to keep in touch.
Fantastic hotel in Phuket

The Central Karon Beach in Phuket was amazing. The room was absolutely gorgeous and very clean. All the staff were incredibly friendly and polite.
The facilities at the hotel are brilliant, again very clean and impressive.
I would recommend this hotel to anybody who wants to be close enough to the beach, bars and shops. Cannot go wrong with this hotel!
loved the Central

We stayed at this lovely hotel for 8 nights June 6 -15 2007 and can not fault it!
This was my first overseas trip, along with four other adults, one a seasoned traveller who has visited 17 countries (so knows what she is talking about) and two others, both with overseas experience. We all thought the Central Karon Beach was just great! We were met with bows and smiles and a welcome drink and refreshing hot towels while we signed in. We were given rooms in the Terrances (1403 & 1404) which were plenty big enough and clean. No probs with the shower. Breakfast was buffet style - assorted juices, cereals, fruit, yoghurt, breads, croissants, sweet rolls, eggs, bacon, sausages, baked beans, hash browns, rice, vegetables, omlettes made to order, fried tomatoes, onions, mushrooms... you get the picture.
Because it was (is) low season we often had the pool all to ourselves and enjoyed working our way through the menu at the bar in the pool with half price drinks starting at happy hour 4pm.
We explored the streets around the hotel andcan recommend the Thai restaurant next door to the supermarket, also the Papaya restaurant which is opposite and the Kashmir Indian
Restaurant where Rashid will help you choose a lovely Indian meal (and gives you a doggy bag for leftovers!) The beach is only a 5 min slow stroll and there are a few shops with clothes etc. A tuk tukl or taxi will get you to Patong in around 10 mins if you want more night life and bigger markets and on your arrival back you will probably be greeted with "Welcome back!" by a smiling young man as he opens the car door for you.
I would have no hesitation in recommending the Central Karon Beach to anyone - we would certainly stay there again.

After reading some of the reviews I was very apprehensive but what a beautiful hotel very modern , when we arrived we were taken to The Mix bar for a welcome drink and the girl from reception came to us and checked us in while in the bar no waiting round at the desk (nice touch) the staff in The Mix are very friendly and helpful as are all staff at the hotel. We were upgraded and the rooms were great has a choice of 2 pools on our doorstep. Very central location 1 mins to bars & restaurants and small market and a short tuk tuk ride to Phuket. Overall a great hotel
FANTASTIC HOTEL

We have just returned from 8 nights in this wonderful hotel,
After reading some of the reports we were a bit apprehensive, but no need to be what so ever.
We were met by wonderful, helpful, smiling faces, taken to seating area for cocktail upon arrival, and were well looked after.
We had a superior room which was very spacious and clean, amazing bathroom.
If going to patong use hotel shuttle bus, runs three time a day,
much cheaper than taxi/tuk-tuk. charges to room, pay upon checkout 80 baht per person.
Has three fantastic pools and you can use any of them, towels are provided and can be taken to the beach.
Over the road is a wonderful Irish Bar called o'Tools, does brilliant food all English, fantastic breakfasts.
Approx 3 minutes to the beach once you have got past the tailors and massage shops.
Dont go for the cheapest trips on offer. We used the shop in same road which states 'Satisfaction Guaranteed' on his board outside, also gives good discounts.
Not much Live music going on this time of year, but go into Patong and on the beach road, far end is the Saxophone Bar, Great live jazz and blues music 3.30pm to 1.30am.
Also Rock city is next door.
Would go back to this hotel and recommend it to anyone of any age.
Nice hotel, problems with the water though
by TripAdvisor Member Janet82
On first arriving, we were very impressed, the lobby was beautiful - the receptionist brought us a lovely Guava drink. Our room was amazing, with what they said was a sea view (you could just about see it in the distance)
Our problems started when we tried to freshen up before going out. The hot water was brown. Called reception and went out for dinner. Come back, was told it was fixed. Tested the water, it was still brown. An engineer came to check it out, said that the problem was with the water tank, we just need to keep the water running to empty the tank. Woke up in the morning, the water was still brown.
Complained some more, they promised to look into it and move us if they could not fix it before we came back.
In the end, they couldnt and they bumped us up to a nicer room by the pool, which they should of done in the first place and as compensation gave us a free massage at their spa.
Other than that, the rooms were amazingly beautiful and its a shame we didnt spend much time in our rooms, but to be honest you dont really need such a nice hotel, there is so much to do.
Locationwise, although its not on the beach, its less than a five minute walk to the beach past the local shops.
The main restaurant is nice with karoke at night, the food is really good, much better than some of the restaurants just outside the hotel - saw a cockroach in one!
The hotel also offers a shuttle into Patong, we rode in a nice pimped out landrover for 80baht each one way. We had to pay 100 baht each to get back via a Tuk Tuk!
Theres this lovely woman who works in a tour operator shop directly oposite the hotel who offered us loads of tours at a much cheaper price than our tour guide.
There loads to do: scuba diving, white water rafting, elephant trekking and shows. Make sure you go to Phuket Fantasea - amazing show (little random at times) but well worth going to get your picture done with baby tigers and elephants.
The day trip around Phi Phi islands were OK, but more for those who like to snorkell, you dont get to stop off at each island and go on the beaches, just the one.
Highly recommend Phuket and this hotel. We saw some others when picking people up for tours and ours was in a location which was by far the best. Near shops and entertainment but not as mad as Patong. It was just us two girls out there and we felt totally safe, no pervy locals, just pervy tourists!

Phuket is a large island, located in Thailand's west coast in the Andaman Sea. The beautiful beaches, pleasant weather, never-to-forget sunset and warm blue sea awaits you in Phuket. Phuket has grown into one of the best holiday destinations in South East Asia and is one of the busiest travel destinations of Thailand.
"Centara Karon Hotel Phuket Thailand"
Centara Villas Phuket (formerly Central Karon Village, Phuket): Set on an incline surrounded by a luxurious natural tropical backdrop. The spacious exotic villas are all sea-facing giving the resort a dramatic ambiance whilst reflecting a unique Thai atmosphere. Direct access to the wide sweeping Karon Beach is literally just steps down (5 minute walk) from the pool area by coastal pathway.
I stay here for 2 nights. Good service but room was a bit old.

Comments on Centara Karon Beach Hotel and Transport from Airport to Karon Beach
by kimura
Hi there,
Planning to head to Phuket in late Aug. Intending to stay at Centara Karon Beach cos there is a Jacuzzi pool in the room. Have anyone stayed there before? Any comments? Any recommendations on other relatively inexpensive hotels with Jacuzzi or Plunge Pool in the hotel rooms?
The hotel is offering me 950THB per way for the airport transfer. That's too expensive. So I was wondering if there is any SAFE transport which I can take from airport to Karon. How much does it cost?
Hope to hear from you soon.

Take ONLY the Taxi Meter from the stand just outside the airport door to the right. Don't listen to any other scumbag just go and do the legitimate procedure where you get a ticket from the booth and are assigned a taxi to take you to your hotel. I don't know how much it will be but it will be less than 500 baht and it will be safe.
For this it is better to follow the rules, otherwise you could be in a dangerous situation or ripped off at the least.
Have a great trip!
Chris

Minibuses also are ok....180 baht to your hotel....taxi's will charge you quite a lot, but if you prefer a taxi then the above posters advice is good advice, get a ticket for a taxi meter.
We were in Karon last month and it's very very quiet. We had always said we'd never go to Phuket but we ended up there on our way to Phi Phi. We actually wished we were in Patong because Karon was way too quiet and not much happening.
The tuk tuk vans wanted to charge 300 baht for a lift into Patong. If you're after complete quiet and relaxation and not much shopping and restaurant/night life then Karon is great at the moment :)
