Silk production
by solopes
In all organized tours it is mandatory to see several production unities of local crafts, ending in a large store that is the REAL reason that took you there. Here it was a little different, and we visited several small producers, where selling was not so forced.
The silk production was particularly curious, and the kids enjoyed very much all the techniques.
Thai Boxing
by DONBURGESS
Whilst on the island of Phuket my mate Tyler went and had a couple of training bouts with a local Tahi boxing camp, they sure made him sweet some i can tell you, but he said it was all good. his sparing partner is a former champion of Thailand. They can supply all the equipment that you will need.
Highest concentration of roadside shops.
by Cabernetman about Patong Top Shopping Paradise
There are a lot of shops along the main Patong Beach road and some shops are in the back streets that fingers from the main road. These shops are ok, but you will find better deals and choices at Patong Top because of the high concentration of shops (more competition) and much wider choice. There are lots of beautiful oil paintings. Lots of clothing and local made crafts and souvenirs. Also bars dot the end of each row of shops....more bars!!! It is not uncommon to find shops qouting a starting price 300% what they are willing to let it go for. Just walk around and ask, and soon you will get an idea of prices should be. They often try bait you with a buy now price. You can always return, but you will may see the same thing for less elsewhere.
Great service
by trevndebs about The Irish Bar
Situated on the beach road and staffed by the friendliest hosts, who just want to serve you a drink and not marry you!
They sit knitting when they're not too busy and presented her indoors with a scarf on our last night.
A great starting and finishing point, we managed to have a sit down here just about every night.Best bit for me was they sold Strongbow!

Tuk tuk - Surprisingly expensive
by Cabernetman
Tuk tuks (also commonly found in other asian countries like the Phillipines) are surprisingly expensive. A short ride from say the centre of Patong beach to the other end was standard at THB100. Not much when you convert it to EUR, USD or GBP but really when you compare it relative to everthing else its actually not cheap. Prices are negotiable. A tuk tuk, from Patong to Phuket town was THB800 return, this means they will wait while you have lunch, shop etc.
