More about Connect Guesthouse

Tropicoza guesthouse Patong

by Alexkolinz about Tropicoza guesthouse Patong

Many of the Patong beach guesthouses have been located some distance away from the beach of Patong which is mainly due to the fact that there are not a great number of Patong guesthouses which are located very near to the beach. Anywhere near to the beach of Patong is prime real estate which is why you will find mostly high end hotels which are located near to the beach. However there are some exceptions such as the Tropicoza gueshouse Patong which is situated only 50 meters or so from the white sandy beach of Patong. So if you are looking for affordable accommodation which is close to the beach of Patong then I would definitely recommend for you to have a closer look at the Tropicoza guesthouse Patong beach. This Russian owned guesthouse Patong beach is located in Soi Wattana Clinic and there are literally 100 of restaurants, shops and bars within easy walking distance of the Phuket Tropicoza gueshouse Patong beach guesthouse. If you feel like doing some clubbing or bar hopping then please note that Bangla road is only a couple of minutes walk away from this guesthouse Patong.

The Tropicoza gueshouse Patong is one of the smallest guesthouses which I have visited in Patong beach as there are only 6 guest rooms at this Patong beach guesthouse. Please note however that not all the rooms are the same as some are bigger than the others and there are in fact 3 room types from which you can select and they are the standard rooms, superior rooms and the deluxe rooms. Only the superior and the deluxe rooms offer a balcony or private terrace. Room rates are surprisingly cheap considering the fact that the Tropicoza guesthouse Patong is located very near to the beach and the Andaman Sea. Room rates for a standard room start at around 400 Thai Baht per room per night during the low season and increase by 800 Thai Baht per room per night during the Patong beach tourist high season.

I did visit 2 available rooms during my site inspection of the Tropicoza guesthouse Patong beach and the rooms were spotless and very comfortable. I would only suggest the owners to hang perhaps some local art work on the walls or do something else in terms of better decorating the rooms. However all the rooms do come equipped with a wide range of modern amenities and facilities which include for example air-conditioning, ceiling fan, complimentary wireless internet, international television programming, safety deposit box and a fridge.

I would also like to mention that there is an outstanding restaurant on the ground floor of the Tropicoza Patong beach guesthouse. The Tropicoza restaurant sits proudly on the former location of the Cafe Spatz. If you feel like having some Russian food in Phuket then the Tropicoza Restaurant in Patong beach is definitely a place you should visit for a great meal. However other types of food are also on the menu including a large variety of Thai dishes as well as Continental European cuisine. If you are staying at the Tropicoza guesthouse Patong then you will receive a 10% discount on your food and beverage bill.

You are looking at peak season so prices won't be cheap and they will be heavily booked. Maybe you should be contacting some places to see what deals you can get as a group.

For that small amount of money in the big and busy tourist towns of Patong and Kata during peak season you should be looking for a guesthouse rather than a bungalow. Google "guesthouse Patong" to find websites that list them.

Travel Tips for Phuket

Scuba diving

by phil_uk_net

Phuket offers some good scuba diving although the dive sites tend to be quite crowded. It is also possible to get trips to the Similans from Phuket but I would recommend going to Khao Lak to do this.

On my last visit to Thailand I returned to Kata Beach to see if the KB dive shop was still there. It was. This was where my interest in diving began. In 1992 I hung around here with a group of divers and did my first resort dive to see what it was like. I later learnt to dive in the UK but returned here in 1996 to do my advanced course. Since then, Kata has become too developed for me so I have ventured away from Phuket to find quieter places.

Alan Rooney, who owns the shop, is a Brit and a really nice guy. If you are in Phuket and want to do some diving I recommend the KB dive shop. Equipment is available to rent if you don't have your own.

Nice seashells bracelet at Panyee Island

by faridah about Panyee Island

I should not have bought the seashells bracelets but it was too beautiful . I still felt guilty. Anyway I bought them at 2 for 140 baht. The quoted price was 1 for 150 baht. I manage to also get some Thai materials at 140 baht, half the price quoted.

Most of the things here you can get at a better price than Patong, provided you can bargain well.

Bangla Road - A place for everyone

by Sosdaa about Clubs, bars, go go

Phukets most famous Soi is Soi Bangla with a lot of nightlife to suit everyone. The amount of bars and women everywhere is pretty amazing. Never experienced this anywhere before. However its not as seedy as it seems. But those who want to see the seedier side can find it. We did not have any problems as a family. Infact my 8 year old had a great time and the girls at the bars loved her and had a lot of respect for families that were around the place. Drinks are comparatively cheap but more expensive than normal places in Thailand. However its a great experience and should not be missed Bermudas, Shorts, Jeans, T shirts are fine.

However looking at the way the girls dress will give any of the top models a complex. Some are very beautiful.

Private Car with local tourist guide cum driver

by bkarjee

We could see almost all of Phuket within 3-4 days time, thanks to Mr. Mae and his Wife Ms Nuch, who made this possible. Mr. Mae has been staying in Phuket for quite a long time and provides transport services to tourists. They are very helpful people and understand English language quite well. I extracted his information from travel pages of one of the travelers in Virtual Tourist and contacted him thro his e mail which is kunthipc@thaimail.com.
His wife Nuch manages the e-mails and its better to give 3-4 days time to reply. They have a big spacious car and are more then happy to take tourists to all the touristy places. He carries a mobile (# 016520017). At the end of the day, when we wanted to pay him for taking us around Phuket, he wouldn’t tell us the amount. He said, we could pay whatever we feel like. I was taken aback and had no idea how much to pay. We paid him 1000 THB because he had been with us for the whole day. Later on, on checking with fellow tourists, I roughly got the idea. If you hire a car for half a day, (say from 0900 hrs to 1400 hrs), normal rate is THB 500. If it is for full day (say from 0900 hrs to 1900 hrs), the rate is THB 1000. If you engage the car for the whole day and late evening, (say from 0900 hrs. to 2300 hrs), better pay 1400-1500 THB. Actually the good service which he rendered to us is unquantifiable. So it is justified if we pay a little extra. Since it is Thai Bhats, it means a lot.
